A Regional Forum for Arts Learning will take place in Alva on Oct. 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the new Graceful Arts Center in downtown Alva.
Northwestern Oklahoma State University joins with the Oklahoma Arts Council (OAC), Freedom West Community Development Corporation and the Graceful Arts Center to provide this regional meeting.
Ken Kelsey, OAC Regional Arts Network Coordinator for northwest Oklahoma and adjunct instructor at Northwestern, encourages anyone interested in learning about grants and services related to arts education to attend this meeting and also take the opportunity to visit the new gallery/studio spaces of the Graceful Arts Center at 523 Barnes.
Michael Eddens, the Council’s Director of Arts Education Programs, said the Oct. 25 forum will be designed to help educators and teaching artists better meet the needs of students in formal and informal classroom settings.
"It will include content that could be useful for professional development for educators of any subject, with the approval of the administration of the school districts represented," Eddens said.
In addition, this forum will address OAC arts education grants, and identify arts learning assets in the area.
"Identifying assets is important, because it helps those involved in arts learning in the region to share resources and extend their capacity,” Eddens said. “As a result, all involved are better able to meet their programming goals.”
The meeting’s agenda will include detailed information on OAC grants and services related to arts education; professional development for certified educators; networking sessions for artists, educators and community members; generating program ideas; and assessment of needs and assets.
Those individuals who could be helped by attending include:
• Pk-12 educators (teachers, administrators, etc.);
• Higher education educators (professors, administrators, etc.);
• Community organizations with interest in arts learning experiences (libraries, community centers, clubs, etc.);
• Arts organizations interested in serving the region with arts learning projects;
• Artists interested in serving the region with arts learning experiences;
• Facilitators and patrons interested in helping schools and organizations develop arts learning programs.
Anyone wishing to attend should register with Kelsey at (580) 603-0103 or firstname.lastname@example.org. More information also can be obtained from Eddens at (405) 521-2023 or email@example.com or by contacting the Graceful Arts Center at (580) 327-ARTS, firstname.lastname@example.org.
