Recycling drives to be a part of 'The Big Event'

March 21, 2011

Conserving Our Ranger Environment (CORE) will be conducting recycling drives in Alva and Woodward as part of this year’s Big Event, its annual community service and clean-up day on Saturday, March 26.

In Alva, recycling events will be held on the north side of the downtown square and at Walmart. Recycling efforts downtown will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Items to be recycled include:

• Aluminum Cans - Proceeds will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation;

• Books/Textbooks - Donations given to Better World Books for distribution in impoverished countries;

• Clothing – Donations will be given to New Beginnings Crisis Center for use by clients. Excess items will be sold by New Beginnings as a fundraiser. The clothing drive is sponsored by Delta Zeta sorority and CORE.

Walmart in Alva will accept plastics and paper at a drop-off location in its parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In Woodward, Walmart will accept aluminum cans at a drop-off in its parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

CORE would like to thank all those who participated in its recycling event last year and encourages participation in this year’s event. The group hopes to make the recycling drive an annual event.

The group also extends its appreciation to Walmart in Alva and Woodward, New Beginnings and Delta Zeta for helping CORE with the recycling event and working to make northwest Oklahoma a better, cleaner place to live.
