April 3, 2013 -- The annual contest to select a theme for the 2013 Alva/Northwestern Oklahoma State University Homecoming has begun, and is open to the public. Deadline for submitting entries is 4 p.m., Tuesday, April 30.

October 17, 2012 -- Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s annual Homecoming parade dodged the rain Saturday, leaving a beautiful day for “Ranger Renaissance: 115 Years of Champions.” Several organizations provided nice parade floats and talented junior high and high school bands participated for prizes during the parade.

October 9, 2012 -- Northwestern Oklahoma State University held its annual royalty banquet last week and announced this year’s Freshman Queen, Skylar Birdsall from Medford. Also recognized were the six candidates who are running for the titles of Ranger King and Ranger Queen, to be announced on Oct. 13 during halftime of the Ranger Homecoming game.

Donovan Reichenberger’s experience with Northwestern has been one as a student, instructor, generous benefactor and now as parade marshal leading the Homecoming parade on Saturday, Oct. 13.

September 21, 2012 -- Twenty-one women representing high schools in Oklahoma and Kansas were on the Northwestern Oklahoma State University campus Saturday for an orientation session in preparation for the 61st annual Miss Cinderella Pageant held as part of the school’s homecoming celebration.

September 11, 2012 -- Sales for buttons designed for Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Homecoming 2012, “Ranger Renaissance: 115 Years of Champions,” will go on sale Monday, Sept. 17, at 5 p.m., during a kickoff celebration at Holder Drug.

April 23, 2012 -- After reviewing several submissions, the Northwestern Oklahoma State University/Alva Homecoming committee selected “Ranger Renaissance: 115 Years of Champions,” as the 2012 parade theme, an option turned in by Alva State Bank employees Magen Shelton and Vilene Hansen.

March 23, 2012 -- The annual contest to select a theme for the 2012 Alva/Northwestern Oklahoma State University homecoming will begin Monday, March 26, and is open to the public. Deadline for submitting entries is 4 p.m., Monday, April 9.

September 27, 2011 - A Northwestern Oklahoma State University Homecoming Art Exhibition showing more than 40 pieces of art by more than 20 artists will be the first event in the new Graceful Arts Center in downtown Alva. The free show opens Friday with a reception for artists and the public from 7 to 8 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Alumni Association will host two reunions for alumni on Friday, Sept. 30.

September 28, 2011 - Homecoming at Northwestern Oklahoma State University will finish with the sounds of music and dancing as the band “The Imposters” performs during the official Homecoming dance on Saturday, Oct. 1. The dance will be held inside the Merchant’s Building at the Woods County Fairgrounds from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Jane Jayroe is returning to Northwestern Oklahoma State University to judge the Miss Cinderella Talent Show and Pageant. Since she is back for Homecoming, Jayroe will take part in a book signing for her two books, “More Grace than Glamour” and “Devote 40 Days” on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9:45 a.m. to noon at the Northwestern Alumni tent across the street from Rialto.

Also recognized were the two king and three queen candidates who are running for the titles of Ranger King and Ranger Queen, to be announced on Oct. 1 during halftime of the Ranger Homecoming game.

In honor of the 60th Anniversary of the Miss Cinderella Talent Show and Pageant at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, four former Cinderella winners and a former pageant director are coming back to campus to judge this year’s event. Jane Jayroe, Miss Cinderella 1963; Annie (Arganbright) Milleret, Miss Cinderella 1967; Lucia (Miller) O’Connor, Miss Cinderella 1972; Cassie (McEachern) Walden, Miss Cinderella 1999; and Dr. Yvonne Carmichael, director for 22 years, have committed to judging the Miss Cinderella Talent Show on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 7:30 p.m., and the Pageant on Friday, Sept. 30, at 8 p.m.

For Harvey Reeg, Northwestern Oklahoma State University holds a special place in his heart. It is the place where he met his wife, earned his undergraduate degree in 1954 and received his master’s in 1961. He now will serve as parade marshal during the annual Homecoming celebration on Sept. 29-Oct. 1. Reeg will lead the parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1. By showing his Ranger pride and leading the parade, it makes him an ideal candidate to represent the Homecoming theme, “Northwestern: Branded for Life.”

Sales for buttons designed for Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Homecoming 2011, “Northwestern: Branded for Life,” will go on sale Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 5 – 6:30 p.m., during a kickoff celebration on the square in downtown Alva. Food and drinks will be served as a way to jump start supporters’ Homecoming spirit. The public is invited to attend.

The theme was devised by members of the Northwestern/Alva Homecoming Association and must be used by any club or organization entering the float, spirit sheet sign and dorm decoration contests.

Fans who want to watch Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s football team battle Black Hills State University on Sept. 12, can do so in style and help raise money to benefit the Alva-Northwestern Homecoming Association. The Association is offering use of the air-conditioned president’s suite at Ranger Field for the game, along with 10 complimentary game tickets, 10 VIP parking passes, refreshments in the suite and a catered meal courtesy of the Rowdy Rangers.

During a football season 100 years ago, the term “Rangers” was first used to name sports teams at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, known then as Northwestern Normal School.
