EDMOND, Okla. – Northwestern pulled out to a four run lead after its first at bat, but couldn’t hold on as Oklahoma Christian held the Rangers scoreless over the remainder of the game, and downed Northwestern 9-4, in the Sooner Athletic Conference opener.
The Rangers scored four unearned runs on five hits and an OC error to lead the first inning off and take a 4-0 lead. The Eagles struck back with a run off starter Nathan Clover and tacked six more runs on during the bottom of the second inning.
Oklahoma Christian added two more runs in the seventh, as the Eagles outhit Northwestern 13-10 in the nine-inning affair.
Cameron Taylor relieved Clover, who threw 1.2 innings and suffered seven runs, and struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings and allowed just a pair of runs. Matt Stratton pitched the final inning and two-thirds, facing six batters and fanning two.
Cody Keiffer and Anthony Cros had two hits each in four at bats, along with a run scored. Cros owned the only extra base hit with a double.
The Rangers (1-5, 0-1) will finish the doubleheader part of the Oklahoma Christian series at Ranger Field on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m.
