ALVA, Okla. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State University baseball team cruised to a doubleheader sweep of McPherson College on Sunday afternoon winning game one 10-0 while taking game two 16-4.
Wes Brorsen and George Flores fueled the offense both going 3-for-3 in game one. Flores drove in three runs while Brorsen drove in two. Brorsen earned all of his RBIs on a bases clearing triple. The Rangers scored runs in each of the first five innings and hit five doubles in the game.
The Rangers (6-2) got their third shutout of the year courtesy of southpaw Eddie Cumpston. Cumpston threw six innings of three-hit ball while fanning eight. Cumpston wasn't particularly dominant but was able to pitch around self-made trouble as the lefty walked three.
The Rangers dominated the Bulldogs via the big inning in game two. Flores' fueled a four-run first inning as the NWOSU offense went off to the races.
Camilo Baldelomar's double to start the third inning started a five-run explosion. Flores collected his second hit of the game with an RBI-single. Jeff Martin's double plated Flores and the Rangers added three more to go ahead 9-0.
Evan James was the beneficiary of all the run support. Despite not getting the win, James did a nice job for head coach Ryan Bay's squad. He pitched three innings giving up two runs. Chase Randall pitched the fourth and fifth inning for the Rangers picking up the win in relief of James.
For good measure, the Rangers put up six runs in the sixth inning taking advantage of the a wild Bulldogs pitching staff that walked two and hit two. Brorsen had a bases-clearing double and was thrown out at third to end a sixth run third inning.
The Rangers will stay at home next weekend to play a doubleheader against East Central on Saturday and Sunday.
