ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern’s soccer team broke its four-game scoreless streak as they were defeated 4-2 at the ARC Ranger Soccer Field by Rogers State on Thursday. The loss dropped NWOSU to 1-2 in the SAC and to 1-6-1 overall.
In just over the first minute of play, Rogers State took a 1-0 lead as they converted on their first corner kick and shot of the match. The Hillcats extended the lead to 3-0 in the first half after unassisted goals in the 20th and 23rd minute.
The Rangers netted their first goal in 10 halves during the 72nd minute on Kayla Meloni’s direct kick. The goal was her first of the season.
Rogers State answered with a score four minutes later to take a 4-1 lead.
With a 1:15 left in the game. Northwestern’s Christina Nunez scored her second goal of the season of a great leading pass from Ashley Guinn to end the scoring at 4-2.
The Rangers were out shot by there opponents 33-11, as Northwestern landed six shots on goal.
In goal, Kelsey Archer picked up 13 saves going the entire game.
The Ranger Soccer team (1-6-1, 1-2) begins a four-game road swing beginning Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Oklahoma City University. Kick off is set for 5 p.m.
