Skylar Birdsall was named the 2012 Freshman Queen during the Ranger Royalty Banquet held Tuesday.  Birdsall was chosen from eight Freshman Queen candidates.

Northwestern Oklahoma State University held its annual royalty banquet last week and announced this year’s Freshman Queen, Skylar Birdsall from Medford. Also recognized were the six candidates who are running for the titles of Ranger King and Ranger Queen, to be announced on Oct. 13 during halftime of the Ranger Homecoming game.

Birdsall is a pre-radiology major and is a member of the Ranger Cheerleading squad. She loves dancing, running with her mom and learning her grandma’s secret southern cooking recipes. She is the daughter of Scott and Teena Birdsall.

Ranger King candidate Samy Mack III is a sophomore majoring in history education and health and sports science. He is from Tulsa and enjoys hanging out with friends, watching SportsCenter and playing intramural sports. Mack is sponsored by Apologia and is the son of Samy Mack and Candice Counts.

The second Ranger King candidate is Brenen Hankins. Hankins is a sophomore theatre major from Alva and is sponsored by the Castle Players. He enjoys theatre, choir, and playing the piano and guitar. His parents are John Hankins and Michelle Jeffries.

Avery Morris is the final Ranger King candidate. Morris is a junior health and sports science major from Houston, Texas. He loves to meet new people and likes to be the blame for making others smile. Sponsored by the Northwestern Football team, he is the son of Angela Morris.

Ranger Queen candidate Gilda Palacio is a junior biology/chemistry pre-med major from Woodward. She participates in SGA, Medical Sciences Club, Chemistry Club, Rangers Excelling at Leadership (R.E.A.L.) and Northwestern Scholar Ambassadors. Gilda enjoys reading and writing and is sponsored by R.E.A.L. Her parents are Gerardo and Hilda Palacio.

The second candidate is Josi Hasenauer, a senior from Wallace, Neb. She is majoring in political science and theatre and is sponsored by Castle Players. She is active in that organization. She enjoys cooking and working on the farm. She is the daughter of Todd and Donalyn Hasenauer.

The final Ranger Queen candidate is Chereese Bowman. She is a senior mass communications major from Wichita, Kan. Bowman is a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha and also sponsored by the group. She is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists. Her father is Greg Bowman.

Ranger King and Ranger Queen coronations will take place during halftime of the Homecoming football game against Southeastern Oklahoma State University on Saturday, Oct. 13. Game starts at 3 p.m.
