Ranger Royalty announced; King, Queen to be named Oct. 1

Kayla Herrington was named the 2011 Freshman Queen during the Ranger Royalty Banquet held Tuesday. Herrington was chosen from 10 Freshman Queen candidates.

Ranger King candidates Kyle Bentley and Michael Hiebert, along with Ranger Queen candidates Cali Crissup, Whitney Grover and Carmen Sander will campaign to earn the titles of Ranger King and Queen during Homecoming. Ranger King and Queen candidates will be announced during halftime of the Ranger football game on Oct. 1.

Northwestern Oklahoma State University held its annual royalty banquet Tuesday and announced this year’s Freshman Queen, Kayla Herrington from Perry. Also recognized were the two king and three queen candidates who are running for the titles of Ranger King and Ranger Queen, to be announced on Oct. 1 during halftime of the Ranger Homecoming game.

Herrington is studying nursing and is a member of the Ranger Cheerleading squad. She enjoys singing and painting. Her parents are Ryan and Jennifer Prichard.

The first Ranger King candidate is Kyle Bentley, Shattuck senior. Bentley is studying health and sports science and is sponsored by the Ranger Cheerleading Squad. He currently cheers for the Rangers and likes to play any sport. He is the son of Kent and Cindy Bentley.

Michael Hiebert, Ringwood junior, is the second candidate for Ranger King. He is studying biology and currently serves as the Student Government Association (SGA) secretary, participates in Northwestern Scholar Ambassadors (NSA) and the Chemistry Club. He enjoys reading, running and hanging out with friends. Hiebert is the son of Rex and Robin Hiebert. He is sponsored by NSA.

Out of five candidates for Ranger Queen, only three finalists were selected. Names and a short bio of Ranger Queen candidates include:

Cali Crissup, Helena junior, is a mass communication major and is sponsored by the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. She is a member of NSA, the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association and Alpha Sigma Alpha. Crissup is the daughter of Jeff and Debbie Crissup.

Whitney Grover, Byron sophomore, is studying psychology and computer science. She is sponsored by the Spanish Club where she also serves as a member. Grover enjoys Latin dance, acting, singing and bowling. She is the daughter of Barry and C.J. Grover.

The final Ranger Queen candidate is Carmen Sander, Seiling sophomore. Sander is a biology and chemistry major. She participates in NSA, SGA and is a member of the Chemistry Club. She enjoys singing, reading and hunting, and is sponsored by the Baptist Student Union. She is the daughter of Kyle and Helen Sander.

Ranger King and Ranger Queen coronations will take place during halftime of the Homecoming football game against Missouri University of Science and Technology on Saturday, Oct. 1. Game starts at 3 p.m.
