A reception for students, their family members and friends, faculty and staff will begin at 4 p.m. in the Ranger Room of the Student Center. Dr. Janet Cunningham, university president, will speak briefly and cheerleaders and mascot Rowdy Ranger will be on hand. Door prizes will be awarded. Families can register for Family Day between 2 and 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Northwestern Bookstore in the Student Center to receive free tickets to the football game, goody bags and the chance to win door prizes. September 26, 2007 in fall semester enrollment A more focused effort on recruiting has led to an enrollment increase of more than 2 percent for the fall semester at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. In a preliminary report to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, Northwestern reported total headcount enrollment of 2,052 students for the fall semester, an increase of 42 students compared with last fall’s report of 2,010 students. Headcount enrollment for the fall semester has surpassed 2,000 students for seven consecutive years. An even more encouraging number is the headcount of first-time freshmen, which soared nearly 40 percent to 338 students, up 96 from 2006. This year’s freshman class is the largest at Northwestern since 2000. Read more...
September 25, 2007 A need to explore regional and community revitalization and encourage innovation within the regional economy in northwest Oklahoma, southern Kansas and the Texas panhandle is the motivation behind asking university alumni to share their knowledge at a new event coming to Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Friday, April 25, 2008, the day before the annual Alumni Spring Reunion. The Northwestern Centennial Symposium has been created to bring new ways of thinking and new ideas to the people of northwest Oklahoma as the state celebrates its 100th anniversary and the university recognizes 110 years of service. Titled “Visions and Crossroads: Northwest Oklahoma – Our Next 100 Years,” the symposium will help to connect leadership, experience and education with the people in the region to allow ideas to be shared that will be beneficial to the future of the area. September 21, 2007 to put their brand on concert series The quirky and amusing Riders in the Sky will open the 2007-2008 season of the Northwest Oklahoma Concert Series with a “Centennial Salute to Gene Autry.” The group will perform at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2, in Herod Hall Auditorium at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva. The group was a big hit with the local audience when they first appeared here in 1996, also as part of the Northwest Oklahoma Concert Series. Read more... September 25, 2007 Students and employees at Northwestern Oklahoma State University are making final plans for homecoming contests and decorations. The homecoming committee is once again encouraging clubs, organizations and offices to enter the spirit sheet sign and/or window/door contests being conducted in conjunction with homecoming.. Entries in all contests must reflect the theme of “Homecoming 007, Northwestern and Oklahoma BOND Forever.” They will be judged on adherence to the homecoming theme, originality and quality of workmanship. September 20, 2007 Float entries from campus and non-campus groups, as well as businesses, are being sought for Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s annual homecoming parade at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 6. First ($25), second ($15) and third ($10) place awards will be made in the categories of campus organizations or groups, off-campus non-profit organizations and commercial businesses, said Dr. Gayla Jordan, float coordinator for the homecoming committee. In addition, each float in all categories will be considered for the President’s Award ($100 and engraved plaque) for the best overall float and the Alumni Association Award ($75) for an exceptional display of Ranger spirit. Northwestern Foundation and Alumni release Bixlers provide funds to renovate In 1968, Bill Bixler, like most college students, was not thinking about how he could give back to the university that would eventually bestow upon him two degrees. Bill was just trying to get good grades and win basketball games. He was a three-year Ranger at the forward position working toward a teaching degree and hoping to one day coach. In 1970 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree, and in 1974 got his Master of Education degree, and it was off to a career of teaching and coaching in Kansas and Texas, respectively. You Should Know: Health care training exercise needs 'victims' A Mass Immunization Prophylaxis Exercise (MIMS) will take place at the Alva Recreation Park gymnasium on Thursday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Brad Franz, dean of student affairs and enrollment management, said that the group administering this exercise needs the assistance from "mock victims." He is encouraging students and others to help out for about 15 minutes or so on this day if possible, to help out with this important training exercise for the health care community. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Faculty/Staff Eastside vs. Westside Smackdown Sept. 27 The Second Annual Faculty/Staff Eastside vs. Westside Smackdown Softball game will be Thursday, Sept. 27, at 4 p.m. at Ranger Baseball Field.
