Northwestern Assessment Day April 2
Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s fourth annual Assessment Day for all students and employees is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2. Employee workshops, as well as student tests and surveys, will take place at various times throughout the day.

Assessment Day is held in lieu of Wednesday daytime classes. All night classes will take place at their regular times.

“Assessment Day gives students, faculty and staff a voice in determining what works and what needs to be addressed,” said Dr. Katherine Garlough, director of assessment and institutional effectiveness.

All Northwestern-Alva students are required to register and complete general campus surveys in the Student Center Ballroom anytime between 9 a.m. and noon.

Northwestern-Enid students need to register and take surveys specific to their campus in the Commons Area, also between 9 a.m. and noon.  Read more...

Global e-commerce in rural American businesses
one of three sessions at Northwestern Symposium
One of three sessions scheduled during Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s symposium “Visions and Crossroads: Northwest Oklahoma – Our Next 100 Years” will cover the area of global e-commerce and how it can be utilized effectively in rural American businesses. The free eventRobert Reeg is Friday, April 25, and is open to the public. All three sessions will take place at 10:30 a.m. and repeated at 1:45 p.m.

Robert Reeg, a 1978 Northwestern graduate now working as the chief technology officer at MasterCard International in O’Fallon, Mo., will be presenting the session titled ““Doing Business in a Global Economy – Bricks and Clicks Working Together.” His session will take place in the J.W. Martin Library.

Reeg said the premise of his presentation will show that the Internet is changing not only how consumers relate to businesses, but how businesses construct their workforces.

More than 200 people gathered in the Student Center Ballroom March 25 to hear Elsie Frost, mother of the late world champion bullrider Lane Frost, speak about her son's success, the inaccuracies in the movie of about his life, "8 Seconds," and how her son was a Christian. Prior to her talk and after, she and her husband Clyde signed autographs in free Bibles they provided to everyone who wanted one. On the cover of the Bible is an illustration of Lane riding a bull. Northwestern-Enid to play host to accounting educators
The Oklahoma Accounting Educators’ Conference will meet Saturday at Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Enid campus.

More than 60 teachers of accounting will be on campus to hear a full day of presentations on a variety of topics, network with fellow educators and see the presentation of the 2008 Outstanding Accounting Educator Awards.  Read more...

Theme sought for Northwestern Homecoming 2008
The annual contest to select a theme for Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s homecoming is now open to the public—on and off campus. Deadline for submitting entries is 4 p.m., Wednesday, April 16.

This year’s homecoming will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 30, through Saturday, Nov. 1.

Enrollment now open for fall, summer sessions
Enrollment for the fall semester at Northwestern Oklahoma State University will open Monday, March 24. Students are encouraged to complete the enrollment process as soon as possible to better ensure their choice of classes, said Dr. Steve Lohmann, executive vice president.

Classes will begin on Aug. 18. A schedule of fall semester classes is available on the Internet at www.nwosu.edu/schedule. Printed copies of the schedule are available at the registrar’s offices in Alva and Enid and at the main office in Woodward. Enrollment for the semester ends Aug. 26.

Northwestern Art Society Art Show approaching,
'Celebrate Northwestern' category added
The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society (NAS) is sponsoring its fifth annual Art Show April 13-26 and has added a special category to “Celebrate Northwestern” as the university culminates the celebration of its 110th year of service in higher education, as well as the state of Oklahoma’s 100th anniversary. All university employees and students are encouraged to enter the show.

Graduating seniors to receive job search advice,
meet prospective employers at NWOSU Career Week
With graduation rapidly approaching, Northwestern Oklahoma State University has scheduled a series of workshops for its senior students leading up to a Career Fair on Thursday, April 3.

The event is being coordinated by Yolanda Creswell of the Career Services Office. She said Career Week will begin with a Resume Writing workshop from 2 to 3 p.m. on Monday, March 31. The workshop will be presented by Karen Sneary, instructor in business.  Read more...

Education 102 program expanding to encourage 8th
grade students, parents to prepare now for the future

A popular program that encourages eighth grade students and their parents to become more responsible for making the life decisions that are critical during this time in their education is expanding.

Education 102: Are You Ready?, began a year ago as a project sponsored by the Alva Public Schools, Northwestern Oklahoma State University and Northwest Technology Center to encourage Alva Middle School students and their parents to begin developing plans for their future education needs and exploring career options.

This spring the program will expand to include students and parents at Fairview Middle School.

You Should Know:
The Northwestern Psychology Club will meet Monday, April 7, at 11 a.m. in EC202. There will be a free lunch, and the program will be by Sandra Harmon, Northwestern's Project to Reduce Crime Against Women coordinator. She will be speaking on Violence Prevention.

On April 17, club members are having a cookout at Hatfield Park beginning at 6:30 p.m.

All psychology majors, minors and anyone interested in psychology is welcome to attend both activities.

Northwestern's agriculture department is playing host to 150 to 200 students from between 15 and 20 schools Thursday and today for the annual FFA Interscholastic Speech and Career Development Contests. Students competed in the speech contest Thursday, and today they have been competing in the following areas: 

  • Food Science – Judging different attributes of food products (taste, smell, texture etc.)

  • Grain and Forage crops – Identification of various cereal grains, forage plants, and grain crops

  • Ag Mechanics – Welding and acetylene torch use

  • Land Judging – Judging of soil texture and slope / erodability, etc.

  • Farm Business Management – Written exam over business and economics topics

  • Ag Communications – Written exam over ag communication topics
