Northwestern to observe spring break
Students and faculty at Northwestern Oklahoma State University will observe the traditional collegiate spring break from March 17 – 21. Classes will resume their normal schedule on Monday, March 24.

Administrative offices at all three campuses will be closed Monday through Wednesday, March 17 - 19. The offices will return to regular office hours beginning Thursday, March 20.

The university’s spring semester officially ends on May 5, with commencement on May 3.

Enrollment to open March 24 for fall semester
Enrollment for the fall semester at Northwestern Oklahoma State University will open Monday, March 24. Students are encouraged to complete the enrollment process as soon as possible to better ensure their choice of classes, said Dr. Steve Lohmann, executive vice president.

Classes will begin on Aug. 18. A schedule of fall semester classes is available on the Internet at www.nwosu.edu/schedule. Printed copies of the schedule are available at the registrar’s offices in Alva and Enid and at the main office in Woodward. Enrollment for the semester ends Aug. 26.

Ranger football to host Pro Day today
The Northwestern Oklahoma State football team will be hosting a Pro Day at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 14 at Ranger Field. Professional scouts from the National Football League, Canadian Football League and other professional leagues have been invited to attend.  Read more...



The music programs at Northwestern were busy this past week presenting four concerts in six days. Members of Northwestern's Concert Choir (above) and University Singers presented "Music of the People: The Art of the Folksong" March 7, and on Sunday, March 9, the University Chorale presented "American Landscapes." The choirs also had the opportunity to debut the women's new choir gowns, which were purchased through funds from the President's Association. The university's Symphonic Band was in concert on Tuesday. Faculty members Dr. Rod Murrow and Ling-Yu Kan (below) presented a duo piano recital on March 6.

Managing diverse workforce tips
to be given April 1 at Northwestern
Tips on managing a diverse workforce will be presented at Northwestern Oklahoma State University Tuesday, April 1, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center. Cost to attend is $15 and will include dinner.

Attendees who pre-register for “Focusing on a Multi-Generational Workforce” and pay their fee before Monday, March 24, will receive a free copy of the book “When Generations Collide: Who They Are. Why They Clash. How to Solve the Generational Puzzle at Work.

The second annual Ranger Research Day will take place Friday, April 4. Students, faculty and staff will display posters outlining research they have performed. Each poster will include an abstract, short introduction, aim of the study, results and discussion.  Read more...

Mother of Lane Frost to share inspirational message here
Elsie Frost, mother of Oklahoma’s own bull riding champion Lane Frost, will be at Northwestern Oklahoma State University Tuesday, March 25, to share an inspirational message about the life of her late son. She will be speaking at 7 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. The presentation is free and open to the public.  Read more...

Northwestern Art Society Art Show approaching,
'Celebrate Northwestern' category added
The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society (NAS) is sponsoring its fifth annual Art Show in April and has added a special category to “Celebrate Northwestern” as the university culminates the celebration of its 110th year of service in higher education, as well as the state of Oklahoma’s 100th anniversary. All university employees and students are encouraged to enter the show.

Lieutenant Governor to be special guest
at Northwestern Symposium April 25

Oklahoma’s Lt. Gov. Jari Askins will be a special guest at Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s inaugural Centennial Symposium “Visions and Crossroads: Northwest Oklahoma – Our Next 100 Years” on Friday, April 25.

Askins will be on campus for much of the day attending breakout sessions. During the symposium’s luncheon, she will share her views of Oklahoma’s proud history and what she believes to be the state’s future opportunities.

The symposium is a new event at the university and has been established because of the need to explore regional and community revitalization and encourage innovation within the regional economy in northwest Oklahoma, southern Kansas and the Texas panhandle.

Honored by the American Association of University Women organization Thursday evening as women leaders in northwest Oklahoma are Charlene Bradt, Educational Development; Dee Wiebener, Economic Development; Dr. Carol McKenzie, Woman of the Year; and Kim Foster, Cultural Development. Not pictured but being honored as the Community Development Award winner is Jerrie McKinley. Miss Northwestern Ashlynn Frey, Lahoma freshman, entertained the banquet audience with a flute solo. Keynote speaker for the evening is Rhonda Mikles (right). Her talk was titled "The Woman Worthy of Recognition." Mikles also offered two workshops on campus in the afternoon. Those workshops were titled "Rekindling the Passion and Enlarging Your Vision" and "Multicultural Diversity." Funding for the workshops came via a grant from the Northwestern Professional Development Center. Membership in AAUW is open to both women and men who have earned at least an associate's degree. For information on how to join, contact Dr. Sheila Brintnall, president, or Dr. Cynthia Pfeifer-Hill, vice president for programs.

Northwestern well represented at Higher Education Day
Northwestern Oklahoma State University was well represented at the recent Higher Education Day at the State Capitol.

The event, sponsored by the Higher Education Alumni Council of Oklahoma (HEACO), attracts hundreds of Oklahoma college students and alumni to the Capitol to provide information to lawmakers and garner support for higher education issues.

Northwestern singers selected for All-Collegiate Choir
Eight Northwestern Oklahoma State University students have been selected to participate in the third annual Oklahoma All-Collegiate Choir. Sponsored by the Oklahoma Choral Directors Association, the choir will perform at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, March 29, at the First Christian Church in Norman. Admission is free, and the public is invited.

Northwestern participants include Amy Lu Riley, Laverne junior; Ryan Wiebener, Alva junior; Elizabeth Smith, Alva graduate student; Crystal Herber, Shattuck sophomore; Kevin Kerr, Conway Springs, Kan., senior; Charlie Burns, Sayre sophomore; Cory Kerr, Conway Springs, Kan., freshman; and Adam Treeman, Enid graduate student.  Read more...

These two women, along with fellow Northwestern freshmen Amelia Thompson of Hutchinson, Kan., and Morgan Smith of Hazelton, Kan. (not pictured), were among more than 200 who attended the Ranger Preview event while seniors at their high schools. The four names were drawn at random during the event to win the scholarships provided by Community Bank.

Graduating seniors to receive job search advice,
meet prospective employers at NWOSU Career Week
With graduation rapidly approaching, Northwestern Oklahoma State University has scheduled a series of workshops for its senior students leading up to a Career Fair on Thursday, April 3.

The event is being coordinated by Yolanda Creswell of the Career Services Office. She said Career Week will begin with a Resume Writing workshop from 2 to 3 p.m. on Monday, March 31. The workshop will be presented by Karen Sneary, instructor in business.  Read more...

Alum wins Sigma Tau Delta Writing Award
Lisa Herning, library services assistant at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, received an award for her writing and scholarship at the Sigma Tau Delta conference held last week in Louisville, Ky. Sigma Tau Delta is an international English honor society.  Read more...


Meagan Peavy, a senior at Lakeland (Fla.) High School, signs a letter of intent to attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University next fall and participate on the rodeo team. Observing the signing are her mother Tina and Tim Kolb, coach of the Ranger rodeo team. Her events are breakaway roping and barrel racing.
