Regents approve budget, tuition rates            Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s budget and tuition rates for fiscal year 2008 have been approved by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and the Regional University System of Oklahoma.

Northwestern will operate with a budget of $19,628,290 for the coming year, an increase of 4.6 percent over last year’s budget. But much of the increase will be used to fund increased mandatory costs in employee health insurance and benefits, utilities and fuel and the minimum wage. The University also is budgeting additional funds for tuition waivers and minimal salary increases for some employees.  Read more...

Al Hunt earns week's league honors

AL HUNT NAMED U.S. ARMY IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - Oklahoma City Yard Dawg and af2 veteran, Al Hunt, has been named the U.S. Army Ironman of the Week by the af2 league office.

Hunt (5’11, 215), in his fifth af2 season, had another impressive all-around effort for Oklahoma City in the team’s 56-45 home win against Alabama in Week 15. The veteran from Northwestern Oklahoma State University made his presence felt on offense with 9 catches for 103 yards and two receiving touchdowns. Hunt also scored one rushing touchdown for the Yard Dawgz and was an impact player on defense with 1.5 tackles. This is Hunt’s first Ironman of the Week Award this season and second of his career.  He was named the U.S. Army Ironman of the Week during the Yard Dawgz 2004 inaugural season.  Hunt earned American Conference All-af2 Second Team honors in 2006 and is the only player who has been with the Yard Dawgz since their inception.

Earlier this season, Hunt became the 5th player to catch 350 passes and score 800 points in a career and the 6th player in af2 history to reach 5,000 yards receiving.  Hunt leads the Yard Dawgz in receptions (83) and scoring (29 TDs).

“Al is really stepping his game up,” commented Head Coach John Fitzgerald.  “If we need a play, we lean on him.”

Community summer band seeking members
Rehearsals have begun, but there is still time for interested musicians to join the annual summer community band.

Dr. Kathryn Lindberg, director of bands at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, said the first rehearsal was held Monday, with upcoming rehearsals set for Monday, July 9, and Monday, July 16. The sessions will begin each day at 6:30 p.m. in Room 310 of the Fine Arts Building. She said that instruments can be provided for those participants who need one.

A public performance will be presented during the afternoon on Sunday, July 22. The time and place will be announced later. Lindberg said she was seeking to arrange an indoor, air-conditioned location to allow everyone to escape high temperatures.

Lindberg said the music will include fun, light selections from movies, musicals, television and cartoons.
