Northwestern professor of biology

How many amendments are there to the Constitution?  What is the Bill of Rights?  Who is the Attorney General of the United States?  Who is the Chief Justice of the U.S Supreme Court?  What is the Constitution?  Who wrote the Star Spangled Banner?

All of these questions and more are asked of anyone wanting to become a U.S citizen.  On Sept. 29, after answering every question correctly, Dr. Venkata Moorthy, professor of biology at Northwestern, and his wife Sudha did just that--became citizens.  Read more...

Michael Korenblit, author and co-founder of the Respect Diversity Foundation, spoke on the topic "The Holocaust and Beyond" in Northwestern's Herod Hall auditorium Thursday. Korenblit, the son of Holocaust survivors, grew up in Ponca City and as a child was curious about the numbers tattooed in blue on his parents’ arms. He still remembers his father teaching him about prejudice at the public park where water fountains were marked “For Coloreds” and “For Whites.” He co-wrote the book Until We Meet Again, the true story of his parents, Manya and Meyer Korenblit, who were sent to Nazi concentration camps during World War II. This story of love and friendship was the basis for his talk, but he shared many other items of history through the years to show that even though political leaders said "Never Again" following the atrocities' that occurred during WWII, there still is hatred among people in the world. Thursday's event also began with a short historical presentation by Dr. Eric Schmaltz, assistant professor of history.
