'Ride with Pride' campaign launched
“Ride with Pride,” a new year-long campaign at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, kicked off Wednesday.

Dr. Janet Cunningham, university president, said that upon becoming president in July, one of her short-term goals was to develop a plan to build university pride among Northwestern employees, students, alumni and friends.

“We have much to be proud about at Northwestern, and we need to showcase the great things that are occurring at our campuses,” Cunningham said.  Read more...

Northwestern's 2006 nursing graduates
have 92 percent licensing pass rate

The licensing examination pass rate of 2006 graduates and other changes in Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s nursing program are expected to result in the early removal of restrictions placed on the program by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN).

Dr. Carol McKenzie, who became director of the program this summer, said 92 percent of the spring graduates passed the required exam on the first try, and the two who did not are expected to retake the test soon. Read more...

Author to discuss respect for diversity
at NWOSU appearance on Oct. 5

Michael Korenblit, author and co-founder of the Respect Diversity Foundation, will speak at Northwestern Oklahoma State University at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 5. He will discuss “The Holocaust and Beyond” in Herod Hall Auditorium. The public is invited to attend. Read more...

CCR concert centerpiece
to Red Riot Week events
Plans for Red Riot Week at Northwestern Oklahoma State University continue as the final touches are underway on the Cross Canadian Ragweed concert and other activities, including the traditional Family Day events.

The centerpiece to Red Riot Week, sponsored by the student group R-Unit, is the concert scheduled for Sept. 27 at 8:30 p.m. in Percefull Fieldhouse, and tickets are still available for $20, said David Pecha, vice president for administration and coordinator of the concert. They are available through the business offices in Alva and Enid and the administrative offices in Woodward.

The concert may be taking place on the Northwestern campus, but university officials want everyone to know the concert is open to the general public, too.

“It’s not often that we can say we’re able to see a well-known band of any genre in concert for $20 right here in northwest Oklahoma,” Pecha said. “We hope the Northwestern community and members in surrounding towns will come out to support this special event.  Read more...

Northwestern to offer two
Tri-State Music Festival scholarships
         Northwestern Oklahoma State University will provide two one-year scholarships beginning next spring to participants in the Tri-State Music Festival held annually in Enid. One scholarship will go to a honor band student and one to a honor choir student. The scholarship amount is $1,000 each.

“Northwestern is proud to be the academic sponsor of the Tri-State Music Festival and we are excited about this opportunity to provide further educational opportunities to Tri-State participants,” said Dr. Mike Knedler, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. “Tri-State is a great event for the city of Enid and we support it fully.”  Read more...

NWOSU students have opportunity
to win Meet & Greet passes to concert
        Northwestern Oklahoma State University students will have a chance to win backstage passes to a Meet & Greet with members of the country/southern rock band Cross Canadian Ragweed prior to their concert Wednesday, Sept. 27, in Percefull Fieldhouse.

Two students attending classes at Northwestern’s Alva campus will win the backstage passes for themselves and a guest with one student winning a pass for themselves and a guest at both the Enid and Woodward campuses. The winners also will receive one music CD from the band and coupons for a drink and food item at the R-Unit sponsored concession stand during the concert.

Tickets to the concert itself are not included as part of the Meet & Greet prize.

Registration will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 18-22 in the following locations:

Ranger Ade
Rowdy, the Ranger cheerleaders, Lady Ranger soccer players, Ranger football players and other Ranger fans converge on the campus near the fountain to sign posters to cheer the Rangers on to victory. Free lemonade, plenty of music and fun with a beach ball took place on Friday. For more photos, click here.

Presidential Partners Golf Classic Oct. 5;
Chesapeake Energy is title sponsor

A field of nearly 100 golfers is expected to participate in the 7th annual Northwestern Oklahoma State University Presidential Partners Golf Classic, Thursday, Oct. 5 at Boiling Springs Golf Course near Woodward.

The event is a benefit for the Presidential Partners program at Northwestern. Since its inception in 2000, the program has supported the development of the President’s Leadership Class program, sponsored the participation of students in national events and competitions, provided funds for special unmet needs to enhance teaching and learning, and supported special projects to enhance student recruitment and retention.  Read more...

attend state conference

Dr. Cheryl Evans, dean of Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Enid, and Dr. Deena Fisher, dean of Northwestern-Woodward, attended the fall semester meeting of the Council of Oklahoma Extended Campus Administrators (COECA) held at the McAlester Campus of Eastern Oklahoma State College.  Read more...



Northwestern faculty, staff and students volunteered their time to make the university's booth at the Woods County Fair successful. Members of the Ranger men's and women's basketball teams, as well as members of the soccer team took a turn visiting with fans and signing autographs. Students from Northwestern's nursing program also worked all three days of the fair providing free blood pressure checks for those attending the fair. A number of Northwestern prizes also were given away at the close of the fair. Faculty and staff not only volunteered at the booth in Alva, but also for the county fairs in Enid and Woodward.

High school seniors from the northwest Oklahoma area are expected to be on the Northwestern Oklahoma State University campus Thursday, Sept. 21, for the Area-Wide College Fair sponsored by the Northwestern Office of Recruitment.  Read more...


Northwestern celebrating
Hispanic Heritage Month
The Northwestern Student Services offices have planned special events for students, employees and the general public during the month of September to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

  • Wednesday, Sept. 20, 7 p.m., Speaker -- "Rock My World: The Hispanic Migration in Texas County," Sara Jane Richter, Department of English at Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Alva-IE131; Enid-ITV220; Woodward-Studio B.

Future events in the Heritage Celebration Series include November - Native American Heritage Month; February - Black History Month; and March - Women's History Month.
