2007 100th anniversary Tuesday The oldest academic building on the Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Alva campus, Fine Arts, will be honored with a special birthday party on Tuesday, March 6, to commemorate its 100th year of existence. A special birthday cake will be cut and served in the Fine Arts Conference room in room 119 between 2 and 4 p.m., and everyone is welcome to join the celebration.
March 2, 2007 travel plans to Kansas City Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s return to the NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship tournament in Kansas City means that the Northwestern Alumni Association will be planning a bus trip to support the Rangers. Until the tournament bracket is released on March 7, it is not known whether the Rangers will play their opening game on Wednesday, March 14, or Thursday, March 15, making the travel plans a little more complicated for the Alumni Association. February 28, 2007 to help adults return to college for degree Northwestern Oklahoma State University will take part in a new statewide program to help Oklahomans and other adults return to college to complete their bachelor’s degrees. “ReachHigher: Oklahoma’s Degree Completion Program” was approved by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to begin in March and will involve nine public universities across the state. February 23, 2007 Women's History Month Northwestern Oklahoma State University has three events scheduled in March to celebrate “Women’s History Month.” In addition, special women’s history displays will be located in the libraries on the Alva and Enid campuses and in the commons area at the Woodward campus. First up is a brown bag lunch/lecture about “Kate Barnard—Oklahoma’s First Elected Woman” presented by Dr. Deena Fisher at noon on Friday, March 9. Fisher is dean of Northwestern-Woodward and a board member of the Oklahoma Historical Society. Read more... March 1, 2007 in two-year career Brittany McBride became the 10th Lady Ranger to join the elite 1,000 Point Club in her last game of her college career. McBride scored 26 points over No. 6 Lubbock Christian in the first game of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Oklahoma Christian University. February 23, 2007 Five women from northwest Oklahoma will be recognized and honored for their accomplishments and contributions to their communities, churches, businesses and families. Recipients include Karen Koehn, guidance counselor at Northwest Technology Center in Alva, educational development award; Jane McDermott of McDermott Insurance in Alva, economic development award; Angelia Case, instructional media technician at Northwestern, cultural development award; and Rev. Judye Pistole, pastor of Alva’s First Presbyterian Church, community development award. The final award of “Woman of the Year” will remain secret until the awards ceremony. February 26, 2007 expanding internship program Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Department of Social Sciences is expanding its current internship opportunities for students who are majoring or minoring in many of its programs. Internships currently are available to sociology and criminal justice students. Dr. Kay Decker, chair of the Department of Social Sciences and professor of sociology, and Dr. Aaron Mason, assistant professor of political science, have worked to establish new internships for students in political science. February 26, 2007 New to lead the festival this year is Ling-Yu Kan, instructor of music at Northwestern. Dr. Rodney Murrow, past director, now leads the university’s graduate program full-time. February 28, 2007 national Farm Bureau conference Four students who are members of the Collegiate Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) chapter at Northwestern Oklahoma State University last week attended the national American Farm Bureau Federation YF&R Leadership Conference and Collegiate Discussion Meet in Jacksonville, Fla. February 22, 2007 planned for March 8 at Enid campus A new state-of-the-art clinical skills lab for nursing students and health care professionals at Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Enid will have its open house on Thursday, March 8. The Emma Lee Tucker Ketterman Clinical Skills Lab will be presented to the public during a come-and-go reception from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the University’s campus, 2929 E. Randolph. February 21, 2007 Cunningham set for April 13 Northwestern Oklahoma State University will formally invest President Janet Cunningham with the symbols of office during tradition-filled ceremonies on Friday, April 13, in Alva. State leaders in government and higher education, along with delegates from other colleges and universities are expected to attend.
