NWOSU to kick off 18-month celebration
for state's 100th, university's 110th

A special event will begin at Northwestern Oklahoma State University Saturday when the university kicks off its celebration of Oklahoma’s Centennial, as well as its own 110th anniversary.

Dr. Janet Cunningham, university president, will make an official announcement of the university’s involvement following the homecoming parade at approximately 11:30 a.m. at the bandstand area on the Woods County Courthouse lawn. Cunningham will highlight a few of the university’s plans for the celebration, which is scheduled to last through commencement in May 2008, as well as unveil the 110/100 logo designed especially for this celebration.  Read more...

'A Northwestern November'
to feature many events

The month of November will be one to remember at Northwestern Oklahoma State University as the school celebrates A Northwestern November, a month-long campaign to highlight numerous campus events.

A Northwestern November is part of the university’s Ride with Pride campaign, an effort to bolster pride and raise awareness in Northwestern.

“November will be an exciting month at Northwestern with events that will appeal to everyone,” said Dr. Janet Cunningham, president. “Northwestern will be the center of activity in November.”

Pep rally to raise homecoming spirit Friday
A pep rally at 10:45 a.m., Friday will allow students and fans of Northwestern Oklahoma State University athletic programs to get vocal and cheer for their teams as the homecoming football game approaches.  Read more...


Trick or Treating & Costumes on campus

Erin Davis was among several South Hall residents who helped to make a "frightful" experience for those Trick or Treating in their residence hall. For more photos from South Hall and Coronado Hall Trick or Treating, click here.

The Clarinet playing, NWOSU band mime (center) had fun with people around campus Tuesday evening when no one knew who he was. Rod Dunkin was the masked man "freaking" people out. He even had a costume contest in his Fundamentals of Art class.


The home of university president Dr. Janet Cunningham
was decorated for Halloween and ready for visitors.

Ryan Wiebener and Kevin Kerr are the winners of the student Halloween costume contest. Melanie Wilderman, instructor in mass communications and adviser to the Northwestern News, is the faculty/staff winner. To see the contest entries, click here.


Even the vehicles were in the Halloween spirit.

Barker to lead homecoming parade
as honorary marshal Saturday

Retired educator Jim Barker of Alva will lead Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s homecoming parade at 10 a.m., Saturday, around Alva’s downtown square.

Both Barker and his wife Patty, also a retired teacher, earned both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Northwestern, he in 1961 and 1968, respectively, and Patty in 1960 and 1967. He also is a longtime sports writer and columnist (Sports Spasms) with the Alva Review-Courier.

Homecoming Sheet Contest
Several clubs and organizations have entered the sheet sign contest, and those signs are now hanging up in the Student Center. These signs also will be on display at the football game Saturday. To see more sheet signs, click here.

Ranger Preview set for Nov. 11
Northwestern Oklahoma State University's annual Ranger Preview event for high school seniors will take place Saturday, Nov. 11, at 9 a.m. in the Student Center.

"We hold Ranger Preview to encourage students to visit our campus and to make sure that we have the opportunity to showcase Northwestern Oklahoma State University and show them the excellent education and college experience we have to offer,” said Brad Franz, dean of student affairs and enrollment management. “We have tremendous involvement in this event from faculty, students and staff in welcoming our potential freshmen to campus. Thanks to the City of Alva, we can offer a $400 scholarship to those in attendance."  Read more...

Amanda Schroeder, Independent RVP with Arbonne International, currently is raising money for the Travis and Charity Lyon family to help with their daughter Liberty’s medical expenses. All of the money raised during this fundraiser will be donated to the Lyon’s.  Items that are available for purchase include candles and holiday gift sets that contain scented lotions, sugar scrubs and bath gels. Schroeder was set up in the Student Center Monday through Wednesday during lunch. For those unable to stop by while Schroeder was there, she may be contacted at (580) 327-6929 or stop by her husband Jesse's office in JDA 235. Jesse is an instructor in mass communications and adviser to NWTV 7.

Northwestern to break ground
on Woodward facility Nov. 8

Northwestern Oklahoma State University will break ground Wednesday, Nov. 8, on its new 19,905 square foot general classroom and office building that will house the university’s operations in Woodward.

The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at the construction site located at 2007 34th Street.

In addition to the ground breaking, the University also will commemorate the 10th anniversary of Northwestern’s campus in Woodward.  Read more...

“Get Your Kicks in 2006” is the theme of Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s annual homecoming celebration, Nov. 2-4 in Alva. Hundreds of alumni and former students are expected to return to their alma mater for homecoming activities.  Read more...

Workshop set to teach access methods
for 'American Memory' project Nov. 7
The Government Documents Department of the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Libraries will sponsor a free workshop Tuesday, Nov. 7, to teach participants how to effectively access the archival collections provided by the Library of Congress “American Memory” web site.

Commemorative homecoming coin,
t-shirts now available for sale

The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Alumni Association is now offering for the first time a limited edition commemorative coin in conjunction with the university’s annual homecoming celebration on Nov. 2-4.

The silver coin with red and black accents depicting this year’s homecoming theme of “Get Your Kicks in 2006” is available for $15 in the Alumni Association office in the northwest corner of the Student Center.  Read more...
