NORTHWESTERN ANNOUNCES OUTSTANDING SENIORS FOR 2008 

Eleven members of the Class of 2008 at Northwestern Oklahoma State University will be honored as Outstanding Seniors at the Northwestern Foundation’s Special Awards Presentation at 6 p.m., Saturday, April 26, in the Student Center Ranger Room.

            To be selected as an Outstanding Senior, students must show campus and/or community involvement, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, have completed at least 60 hours at Northwestern, never have been subject to academic or disciplinary action and show the promise of future achievement.

            Each recipient receives a plaque and a $100 savings bond.

            Those selected, listed alphabetically, and a brief summary of their activities are:

            Cara Rene’ Bradt of Alva was a December 2007 graduate and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor of arts degree in instrumental music education. She was a member of the Phi Delta Music Society (including past president), was a founding member of the Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity, Lamda Omega Chapter, and as a freshman, was a member of the President’s Leadership Class.  She is the recipient of the John Ted Meier Student Teaching Award given to a student who completed requirements for their teaching certificate.

            Ashley Brown-Tebow of Alva will graduate with a bachelor of science degree in health and fitness management. She has served as secretary for Northwestern’s R-UNIT pep club and been named to the president’s honor roll. She was selected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She was a member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls and the Order of the Eastern Star.

            Kimberly Jo Gann of Alva will receive a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. She has already passed the Oklahoma Subject Area Tests (OSAT) and the Oklahoma General Education Tests (OGET), both certificate examinations for educators. She has been named to the president’s honor roll and received several academic scholarships.

            Ashley Guffy of Burlington will graduate with a bachelor of science degree in psychology with a minor in mass communications. At Northwestern, she was involved in the R-UNIT pep club and received an upper academic scholarship. She currently works at Wal-Mart as photo lab technician and plans on pursuing a career as a professional photographer. She is one of the recipients of the T.C. Carter Award for the graduating senior(s) with the highest cumulative grade point average.     

Kaylyn Hansen of Turpin will receive a bachelor of science degree in psychology with a minor in substance abuse counseling. She has been a member of the Ranger cheerleading squad, Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority, Psychology Club, and Psi Chi Psychology Honor Society. She received the James and Mary Ellis Psychology Scholarship and was the Top Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior as a member Alpha Sigma Alpha. She is also a recipient of the Psychology Student of the Year award.

            Lisa Herning of Alva was a December 2007 graduate and graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor of arts degree in English education. She earned an associate degree in culinary arts at Oklahoma State University-Okmulgee prior to attending Northwestern. At Northwestern, she has been active in Castle Players, Lambda Iota Tau Literature Honor Society, and Alpha Nu Psi International English Honor Society. Herning is currently a library services assistant in the J.W. Martin Library at Northwestern.

            Molly Hill of Alva will graduate with a bachelor of science degree in political science with a minor in psychology. She is co-founder and president of R-UNIT, chairman for Northwestern’s Spirit Week, Student Government Association treasurer, and a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha. She was a member of the President’s Leadership Class and later served as a Northwestern Scholar Ambassador and in the Leadership Northwestern class. She is a recipient of the T.C. Carter and John F. Kennedy awards.

            Callie Mosburg of Beaver will receive a bachelor of science degree in biology with a minor in business administration. She has applied for the medical laboratory technician program at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kan. During her time at Northwestern, she was active in intramural sports, Phi Beta Lambda Business Organization and National Scholar’s Honor Society. She received the General Physics Einstein award and was named to the president’s honor roll. Mosburg is a recipient of the T.C. Carter award.

            Tye Parr of Norman will graduate with a bachelor of science degree in special education and a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish. Tye has been very active on Northwestern’s campus as the president the Northwestern Scholar Ambassadors and president of the Spanish Club. He received the Future Teacher Scholarship as well as many other educational scholarships. Tye is a recipient of the T.C. Carter award and the Dr. Joe Dollins Merit award given to the student who has completed the student teaching professional semester.

            Heath Stotts of Enid will graduate with a bachelor of science degree in biology with a minor in chemistry. He has plans of attending Northeastern Oklahoma College of Optometry in the Fall of 2008. He has had an article published in the American Journal of Undergraduate Research entitled, “Visualizing Bond Types with Electron Density Models: How Informative is Electronegativity?”

            Christy Wallace of Aline will graduate with a bachelor of science degree in education. She earned an associate degree at Northern Oklahoma College prior to attending Northwestern. Wallace was involved with the Student Oklahoma Educators Association, serving as president, a member of the Wheat Capital Association, National Association for the Education of Young Children, and the Child Care Advisory Board. She was the recipient of the International Scholastic Award from Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and named to the president’s honor roll.

            Others receiving awards are Janet Stauffer, T.C. Carter award; Tiffiney Walls, Psychology Student of the Year; and Kimberly Weast, John Sheffield Teacher of the Year.
