SECOND ANNUAL RANGER RESEARCH DAY SLATED FOR APRIL 4

            The second annual Ranger Research Day will take place Friday, April 4. Students, faculty and staff will display posters outlining research they have performed. Each poster will include an abstract, short introduction, aim of the study, results and discussion.

The posters will be set up and judged from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Student Center Ballroom on the Alva campus. The public will be able to view the presentations from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

At 1:30 p.m. in the Ranger Room of the Student Center, Dr. Linda Mason, coordinator for grants and external funding assistance with the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, will give the keynote address and awards will be presented. The public is invited to attend the address and awards ceremony.

The competition is open to all academic disciplines to include arts and music, business, education, liberal arts, math and science. A complete list of the abstract categories, codes and disciplines, as well as other information about Ranger Research Day is available at www.nwosu.edu/graduate/research. The web site contains general information about Research Day and a list of winners from the inaugural competition last year.

            Poster presentations will be eligible for first through third place awards within each category. All entries will receive a certificate of participation and researchers will be encouraged to enter their research projects in Oklahoma Research Day held at the Northeastern State University-Broken Arrow in the fall of 2008.

            Lisa Herning, 2007 graduate, presented “Jack London and the Natural Order” at the 2007 Oklahoma Research Day.

            Tiffiney Walls, Enid senior, has been selected to represent Northwestern at the annual Research Day at the Capitol in Oklahoma City on Monday, March 31. After judging, posters are opened to the public at 10:45 a.m. on the fourth floor rotunda in the capitol building.

            Wall’s project is titled “Socioeconomic Status and Sex Role Stereotypes Toward Women” and her project adviser is Dr. Wayne McMillin, professor of psychology.

            The event is sponsored by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, Oklahoma Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research and the National Science Foundation.
