The presidents of each school, Dr. Janet Cunningham of Northwestern and Dr. Joe Kinzer of Northern, signed memorandums of understanding at a ceremony in Enid that creates the “Bridge Program” between the schools.
The “Bridge Program” will help aid students by making it possible for students to be jointly admitted and eligible to enroll concurrently at both institutions, eliminating barriers to attaining educational goals, improving academic program articulation, and expanding options for college services.
“We want to make it clear to students at Northern Oklahoma College that we look upon them as special and will make every possible effort to help them complete a bachelor’s degree at Northwestern once they complete their work at NOC,” Cunningham said. “Today’s agreement strengthens the long-standing partnership between Northwestern and NOC. I thank Dr. Kinzer and his staff for their willingness to work on this agreement.”
Kinzer also welcomed the agreement.
“The partnership between NOC and Northwestern that began with the Enid Higher Education Center in 1996 has been taken to a new level today,” Kinzer said. “Our goal is to provide the best possible higher education opportunities to students in northwestern Oklahoma. Northern is excited to continue our partnership with Northwestern.”
In addition to the terms of the agreement, Cunningham said Northwestern will offer special financial aid incentives in the form of transfer scholarships to students who graduate from NOC with an associate’s degree. Northwestern will offer $1,000 scholarships to NOC graduates with the amount increasing up to $1,900 per year for students with high grade point averages.
Northwestern operates campuses in Alva, Enid and Woodward while NOC has campuses in Tonkawa, Enid and Stillwater. The agreement covers students at all campuses.
