CHORAL CONCERT TO KICK OFF WEEK OF MUSICAL EVENTS AT NORTHWESTERN
“Worlds Beyond” at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, in Herod Hall Auditorium at Northwestern Oklahoma State University begins a week of musical events in celebration of the end of the school year and the annual Spring Reunion activities for alumni.
The Concert Choir and University Singers will perform Tuesday night. At 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 25, the Fine Arts Department will present its Centennial Celebration in Herod Hall Auditorium, and it will be the turn of the Alumni Choir to appear in Herod Hall Auditorium at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, April 26. The events conclude at 2 p.m., Sunday, when the University Chorale presents “100s,” also in Herod Hall Auditorium.
“Worlds Beyond” looks at worlds and realms of experience that may or may not exist beyond the boundaries of our normal level of perception. The Choir and Singers will be directed by Dr. Stephen Kingsbury, director of choral and vocal studies, and will be accompanied by Dr. Ling-Yu Kan, assistant professor of piano. The concert is free, and the public is invited.
Works will include “Nachtens” by Johannes Brahms, “O frondens virga” by the medieval abbess and mystic Hildegard von Bingen; the Scence of the Drunken Poet from Henry Purcell’s opera The Fairie Queen, “Sing Me the Universal” and “Dominic Has a Doll” by Vincent Persichetti.
Also included will be Purcell’s “In These Delightful, Pleasant Groves,” “Come, Close the Curtains of Your Eyes by Margrethe Hokanson, “In Remembrance” from Eleanor Daley’s Requiem and Sam Pottle’s setting of Lewis Carroll’s poem “Jabberwocky” from Alice in Wonderland.
