FIVE TO VIE FOR MISS NORTHWESTERN TITLE
Five women have entered the 2008 Miss Northwestern Pageant to be presented in Herod Hall Auditorium at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 8.
Tickets for the event are $8 in advance and may be purchased from any contestant or from Misti Knopf, pageant director. She may be contacted at (580) 327-8194 or mfknopf@nwosu.edu. Tickets at the door will be $10, and Northwestern students with a current ID card will be admitted free.
The contestants will seek the title currently held by Jordan Gaskill of Waynoka and the right to represent Northwestern in the Miss Oklahoma Pageant later this year.
The women will compete in fitness and swimsuit, talent, evening gown and poise.

The contestants are Courtney Brice, Enid junior; Shala Campbell, Mooreland freshman; Ashlynn Frey, Lahoma freshman; Kaylen Kirby, Pond Creek junior; and , Ashland, Kan., junior.
Brice is majoring in biology and holds an associate’s degree in pre-medicine from Northern Oklahoma College (NOC). The valedictorian of Enid High School, she was named to the dean’s honor roll, president of the Presidential Leadership Council and secretary of the Student Senate at NOC-Enid. She also was selected as Miss NOC-Enid in 2006.
Brice has chosen “Save a Life—Donate Blood” as her platform. In the talent portion of the contest, she will perform a piano solo, “Game Day.”
The oldest of five children, she formerly ran a home purse-making business and enjoys painting, shopping and being outdoors. She is the daughter of Bob and Gayla Brice.
Campbell is majoring in nursing and is a twirler with the Northwestern band. She is the recipient of the Kinser and freshman academic scholarships and after her first semester at the university, was named to the president’s honor roll.
At Mooreland High School, Campbell was named to the National Honor Roll and National Honor Society and received the State Superintendent’s Award for Arts Excellence and other academic awards.
Campbell has chosen awareness of “Juvenile Diabetes” as her platform and will perform a twirling routine to “Great Balls of Fire” as her talent presentation.
She has two older brothers and recently became an aunt for the first time. Her parents are Mike and Sherri Campbell.
A major in early childhood education, Frey is a member of the President’s Leadership Class and the recipient of valedictorian and freshman academic scholarships. She was named to the president’s honor roll and is the Freshman Class president.
A graduate of Cimarron High School, she was named as 2006 Miss Cinderella during Northwestern’s homecoming and won numerous FFA awards. She also was active with the Student Council, yearbook, band and the Senior Class.
Frey will perform the flute solo “Fever” as her talent. She has chosen “Hang Up and Save Lives—Promoting Highway Safety,” discussing the use of hand-held cell phones while driving.
The daughter of Larry and Vicki Frey of Lahoma, she has one younger brother.
Kirby is a graduate of Pond Creek-Hunter High School and is majoring in special education. A recipient of the Kloefkorn Family Scholarship, she has been named to the vice president’s honor and accepted into the teaching program.
A published poet, Kirby is a member of the Alva Relay for Life committee. She is a member of the university’s cross country team and the Student Oklahoma Education Association.
Kirby will perform a fitness dance for her talent. For her platform, she has chosen “Shake What You Have in Those Jeans, America,” which promotes a healthy body image for life.
The daughter of Kent and LaJean Kirby and Barbara Kirby, she has two older sisters.
Woolwine, a graduate of Pratt Community College, is majoring in early childhood education. She completed her junior and senior years of high school in one year through 21st Century Learning Academy Virtual School.
Woolwine has stuttered since early childhood and has chosen “Stuttering Awareness” as her platform. She is the youth spokesperson for the Stuttering Foundation of America.
For her talent, Woolwine will perform magic tricks, a skill she has been developing for 10 years.
She is the daughter of Gerald and Robin Woolwine and has one younger brother.
