NORTHWESTERN’S MASS COMM DAY ATTRACTS STUDENTS

Students from five high schools visited Northwestern Oklahoma State University Wednesday to take part in the Communication Department’s Mass Comm Day.

High school students from Alva, Waynoka, Mooreland, Jetmore, Kan., and Kiowa, Kan. met faculty members and current Northwestern students to learn what the university offers in its mass communications program.

In the Northwestern News’ newsroom, the visitors learned simple designs using desktop publishing software, wrote headlines and downloaded digital photos.

At KNSU, the campus radio station, the students recorded their own voices, learned about the software used at the station and were interviewed during an on-air show.

In the studios of NWTV7, students learned how to use a switcher, audio board and teleprompter. As a group, they recorded a mini-show and received tapes of it to take with them.

Northwestern’s degree program in mass communications prepares students for careers in a variety of fields, including radio, television, newspaper, magazines, public relations, advertising, church media, corporate or government communication, politics and others.
