KAPPA KAPPA PSI COLLECTS TOYS, CLOTHING FOR NEW BEGINNINGS 

            The Lambda Omega Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi at Northwestern Oklahoma State University has collected and delivered toys and other items to the New Beginnings transitional living center in Alva.

            Chapter president Yvonne Colle-Burden, Medicine Lodge, Kan., senior, said the members had collected a variety of games such as Battleship and Candyland, books and recorders for children, as well as a selection of clothing.

            “New Beginnings is providing a great service, and we wanted to help them out over the holidays,” Colle-Burden said. “Often when a family arrives, they have nothing but the clothes they are wearing. We felt this was a very worthy organization to lend a hand.”

            Vice president Ryan Wiebener, Alva junior, said, “As a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, I feel honored to be able to give to those in need.”

            Historian Chris Jamison, Carmen sophomore, noted that the donation could become a tradition with the organization.

            Group members want to thank all those who contributed to their collection efforts and noted that New Beginnings needs furniture such as dressers, dining tables and chairs for the apartments.

            “If anyone would like to donate items or money,” said Colle-Burden, “they should call (580) 327-6648 to contact the director.”

            Kappa Kappa Psi is a national honorary band fraternity that promotes the advancement of college and university bands through dedicated service and support to bands, comprehensive education, leadership opportunities and recognition.

            The Northwestern chapter was installed this spring. Future activities include commissioning music for the band and choir and attending leadership workshops and conventions.
