INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS TEACH ABOUT NATIVE COUNTRIES
Seven international students from Northwestern Oklahoma State University traveled to Woodward Feb. 22 to meet with area Girl Scouts and share information about their home countries.
The students who attended were Gokce Alakus, Turkey freshman; Ngalula “Nice” Mutsipayi, Democratic Republic of Congo sophomore; Karina Luk, Hong Kong junior; Liming Xie, China post-graduate; Xin Xin Liu, China freshman; Mah Asombang, Zambia sophomore; and Shiecca Madzima, Zimbabwe sophomore.

The international students had prepared PowerPoint presentations that included pictures of their countries and cultures, as well as important historical facts.
In groups of six, the Girl Scouts rotated from table to table and spent 20 minutes learning about each country and culture.
“I believe events like this are very important,” said Bryan Pope, international student adviser. “Our students are helping promote global awareness in the surrounding communities. Hopefully, these global experiences will influence the audience, which in turn will influence future decisions…ultimately making the world a better place.”
The international students each received a box of Girl Scout cookies as a gift. A donation also was given to the International Student Association.
“I would like to thank the students for giving up a Friday evening and for putting together quality presentations,” Pope said. “I would also like to thank Virginia Mann of the Girl Scouts for inviting us, and I hope we can do this again in the future.”
