NORTHWESTERN GRADUATE MAKING NAME IN ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY
Northwestern Oklahoma State University mass communications graduate and former
Ranger basketball player Joshua Holland is making a name for himself in the
entertainment industry and recently landed the lead role in an independent film.
The Chandler, Okla., native moved to New York City about two years ago to pursue a dream of being a model and actor. Since that time he has added a number of items to his resume, including film and television acting, as well as commercial, fashion, print and runway modeling.
The most recent accomplishment was announced March 28 when he was cast as Cooper, a young rookie police officer, in Joyce Jahnke’s newest police drama “First Day.”
This production is set to shoot in New York City in May, and will be available on DVD.
Holland said he had known about the lead role for a couple of weeks, but has been so busy on various other projects, he hasn’t had much time to celebrate.
Some of the recent reasons he’s been so busy include being cast in a lead role for the summer web series “Anyone but Me.” This new program is about two teens growing up in a very different world. Holland said that three promos have been shot so far for the web series, and he expects to begin shooting the episodes by the end of the month.
“Shooting with this cast and crew is awesome,” Holland said. “It’s like we’ve already become good friends, and I think it’s gonna show on camera. I’m excited to dive into the full project now.”
Holland said he also just completed two national commercials for Burlington Coat Factory, Daffy’s 2008 Summer Ad Campaign, an AT&T web commercial spot, WBLS “New Face of Radio” industrial commercial, and currently is on hold for Target’s look book and an editorial spot in Cosmo magazine.
Holland also recently appeared on the “Racheal Ray Show” as an underwear model and was in the background during a sketch on “Saturday Night Live.”
“It’s so great to finally start making real progress in this extremely tough and competitive industry,” Holland said. “It hasn’t been easy, and I don’t expect it to get any easier, but I can definitely say that my training at Northwestern, especially my communications training, allowed me to become better prepared for the many things that I have faced thus far. It’s so exciting to work on a broad variety of projects, travel around the world and make some decent money – sometimes all at the same time.”
Holland said for everyone to get ready because he promises plenty more successes.
