DEENA FISHER RE-ELECTED TO OKLAHOMA HISTORICAL SOCIETY BOARD

Dr. Deena Fisher, dean of Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Woodward, has been elected to serve a second consecutive three-year term on the board of directors of the Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS).

The board consists of 25 members—13 of whom are elected by OHS members and 12 appointed by the governor.

“I have enjoyed serving on the OHS’ board of directors,” Fisher said, “and I am pleased to be elected to serve another term. It was my dear friend Dr. Bill Pennington who first nominated me to run for a board position. Some of the highlights while I’ve been a member include the opening of the Oklahoma History Center, the opening of the governors’ exhibit (and seeing all the former governors and their families), meeting African-American historian Bruce Fisher and serving on various committees. I look forward to protecting, preserving and sharing the great state of Oklahoma’s history.”

Fisher, who also is an associate professor of history, will attend the OHS annual meeting this week in Ardmore. It has a theme of “Boundaries, Bridges & Borderlands: The Red River in Oklahoma History.”

In one breakout session, Fisher will moderate the presentation of two papers concerning boundary disputes between Oklahoma and Texas along the Red River.

The meeting will feature photojournalist Galen Culver, famous for his series “Is This a Great State or What?” He will provide a presentation on “Life along the Red River.”
