FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 30, 2008
CONSULTANT TO VISIT NORTHWESTERN’S DIVISION OF NURSING
Dr. Sylvia Rayfield, an internationally known nursing education consultant, will be at Northwestern Oklahoma State University Monday and Tuesday. She will meet with faculty members to discuss test item writing and teaching strategies.
Dr. Carole McKenzie, chair of the Division of Nursing, said deans and directors of nursing schools throughout the state have been invited to attend.
“We have extended special invitations to our regional neighbors at High Plains, Autry and Northwest technology centers, Northern Oklahoma College and Panhandle State University,” McKenzie said. “We are able to do this through a grant from the university’s Walch Business Center.”
Sylvia Rayfield and Associates is headquartered in Florida and presents a variety of development workshops, self-study programs and review courses.
In addition to Rayfield’s workshop, representatives from her company will present a review of the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Northwestern’s junior and senior nursing students May 7-9 at Northwestern’s Enid campus.
The United States and its territories require anyone entering the nursing profession to pass an examination that measures the competencies needed to perform safely and effectively as a newly-licensed, entry level nurse.
McKenzie said the review had been made possible by the generosity of donations from Integris Bass Medical Center and St. Mary’s Medical Center of Enid, Share Medical Center of Alva and Woodward Regional Medical Center.
