NORTHWESTERN CHORALE TO PRESENT ‘AMERICAN LANDSCAPES’ CONCERT
The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Chorale will present “American Landscapes” at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 9, in Herod Hall Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.
The program will present music with themes that focus on the beauty and diversity of the American landscape.
“The works are by some of the most significant and influential American composers,” said Dr. Stephen Kingsbury, director of choral and vocal studies. “All of them tie together these aspects of nature, with some form of commentary on the American experience.”
The program will begin with “Make Our Garden Grow” from Candide by Leonard Bernstein. Dr. Ling-Yu Kan, assistant professor of music, will accompany the chorale on piano. This will be followed by “Lamentation over Boston” by William Billings.
Erin Place, adjunct instructor in music, will accompany the singers for “Wood” from Four Pastorales by Cecil Effinger. The last piece before intermission will be “Wade in the Water” arranged by Moses Hogan.
The second half of the program will consist of “Frostiana,” a tribute to noted poet Robert Frost. The piece by Randall Thompson includes “The Road Not Taken,” “The Pasture,” “Come In,” “The Telephone,” “A Girl’s Garden,” “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” and “Choose Something Like a Star.” Kan will accompany the singers.
The University Chorale is Northwestern’s most advanced large choral ensemble and consists of 25 to 30 singers.
