CENTENNIALS TO BE CELEBRATED IN SONG
Music written to celebrate centennial events will be featured in a concert titled “100’s” at 2 p.m., Sunday, in Herod Hall Auditorium at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The program is free, and the public is invited.
The Northwestern University Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Stephen Kingsbury, director of choral and vocal studies, will present the concert, wrapping up the spring semester’s calendar of musical events.
The performance will include “Song of Democracy, written by Howard Hanson in honor of the 100th anniversary of the National Education Association and the 50th anniversary of the Music Educators Conference. “Arma Lucis: The Armour of Light” by Jackson Berkey was written for the centennial of the Cathedral of St. Cecelia in Omaha, Neb.
Also included will be “A Little Learning Is a Dangerous Thing” by Missouri-based composer Dr. Eric Honour. The work was composed for the Northwestern Department of Fine Arts in honor of the centennial of the State of Oklahoma, the 110th anniversary of the university and the centennial of the Fine Arts Building.
Dr. Ling-Yu Kan, assistant professor of music, will accompany the group on piano.
“These works strive to shed light on the importance of education in people’s lives,” Kingsbury said.
