Two head of cattle belonging to the Northwestern Oklahoma State University farm and exhibited by members of the university’s livestock show team received significant honors last week at the Tulsa State Fair.

Steve Sneary, farm manager, said Northwestern has the champion senior Maine-Anjou heifer and the reserve champion junior Maine-Anjou heifer. The team, which included Sneary, Alva sophomore Duke Nunley and Canton senior Jason Seifried, also exhibited the champion senior Maine-Anjou bull calf for 4E Cattle Company of Burlington.

“Work-study students at the university’s farm spent many hours breaking them to lead, washing, blow-drying and grooming the heifers in preparation for the show,” Sneary said. “It takes hundreds of hours of labor to get show animals ready and it starts with a sound breeding program, good nutrition, evaluation and lots of labor. It was well worth the effort we put forth.”
