FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 24, 2008
SPRING BLOOD DRIVE SCHEDULED AT NORTHWESTERN
Northwestern Oklahoma State University will hold its spring semester Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) Blood Drive Tuesday, Feb. 5, in Enid, and Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 6-7, in Alva.
The Enid drive will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the commons area at 2929 E. Randolph. The Alva drive will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day in the Ranger Room of the Student Center.
The Advanced Public Relations class is working with OBI and has set a goal at 360 usable units of blood to be collected during this drive. Because Bradley Gilbert, a May 2007 Northwestern graduate from Enid, was diagnosed with a form of leukemia in the fall, donors are asked to credit their donations to Gilbert.
“When donating your blood, just tell the nurse you want your unit to be credited to Bradley Gilbert,” said Chesnei Zehr, special events coordinator.
“Bradley will receive credits for each unit that is credited to him,” said Ashley Ewbank, blood program consultant for the Northwest Oklahoma Blood Institute. “He will receive blood products that match his body. Crediting donations will help ensure that the blood supply is at a safe level to meet patient needs and give Bradley a little financial help. This is one of the great benefits of being a blood donor and part of a donor group.”
Blood units can be credited to Bradley at any blood drive, not just those at Northwestern. Additionally, donors are not required to be Northwestern students or employees.
Donors at each of the drives will receive free refreshments and a free T-shirt. A signature Northwestern T-shirt will not be available this spring, but will return for the fall blood drive. February’s T-shirt will be Spring Break-themed for the upcoming annual vacation.
