BANDS TO MARCH IN HOMECOMING PARADE, PARTICIPATE IN MASSED BAND
Thirteen bands will circle the square during Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s homecoming parade at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 6.
Band director Dr. Kathryn Lindberg said that, in addition to Northwestern’s marching band, the junior high and high school band were coming from as far away as Springfield, Colo. Adam Steuart, a 2007 Northwestern graduate is band director there.
Those band marching and their directors, listed by class, are:
Junior High—Pioneer-Pleasant Vale, Sherri Lohmann and David Holland; Alva Middle School, Mike Conner.
Class B—Mooreland, Jennifer Davis; Ringwood, Jim Pearce; Dighton, Kan., Amy Freeman-Trayler.
Class A—Drummond, John Arnbrecht; Springfield, Colo., Steuart; Texhoma, Melissa Law; Pioneer Pleasant Vale, Lohmann and Holland; Seiling, Karen Harris.
Class AA—Chisholm, Randy Johnson.
Class AAA—Alva, Mike Conner.
Northwestern and Pioneer-Pleasant Vale, Alva and Chisholm high schools will present mini-concerts on the band shell immediately after the parade. Band and float awards will be announced at that time.
The bands will gather at Ranger Field in the afternoon to present a massed band performance of “Oklahoma Rising” during halftime of the homecoming football game with Oklahoma Panhandle State. “Oklahoma Rising” is the state’s official centennial song with music by Vince Gill and lyrics by Jimmy Webb.
