SYMPHONIC BAND TO PRESENT CONCERT MARCH 11

The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Symphonic Band will present “Marches and Mayhem” at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 11. The concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.

Dr. Kathryn Lindberg, band director and assistant professor of music, said musical selections would include “Symphony #3 ‘Slavyanskaya’” by Boris Kozhevinkov, arranged by John R. Bourgeois.

Other selections include:

“Esprit de Corps” by Robert Jager, based on the “Marines’ Hymn” as a tribute to the United States Marine Band and its conductor Colonel John R. Bourgeois;

“Sleep” by Eric Whitacre, which Lindberg said was originally an a cappella choral piece that the composer thought would make a “gorgeous addition” to the wind symphony; and

“Pineapple Poll” by Sir Arthur Sullivan that features an arrangement by Charles Mackerras. This piece is intended as a musical spoof of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas with each measure of the work being drawn from different operas.
