FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                                    March 26, 2008

NORTHWESTERN ASSESSMENT DAY APRIL 2

Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s fourth annual Assessment Day for all students and employees is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2. Employee workshops, as well as student tests and surveys, will take place at various times throughout the day.

Assessment Day is held in lieu of Wednesday daytime classes. All night classes will take place at their regular times.

“Assessment Day gives students, faculty and staff a voice in determining what works and what needs to be addressed,” said Dr. Katherine Garlough, director of assessment and institutional effectiveness.

All Northwestern-Alva students are required to register and complete general campus surveys in the Student Center Ballroom anytime between 9 a.m. and noon.

Northwestern-Enid students need to register and take surveys specific to their campus in the Commons Area, also between 9 a.m. and noon.

Because classrooms are more scattered in Woodward, students receive and complete their specific surveys through their instructors at different times during the week.

Some students, who have been notified by letter, will have the opportunity to evaluate their educational progress through mid-level assessment exams. Graduating seniors will participate in exit interviews and portfolio reviews in their major areas of study. In addition, there will be admission interviews for education students, and graduate students will complete surveys via e-mail.

Northwestern employees also are scheduled to attend various workshops that day.

Employees can attend a workshop titled “Motivation and Stress Management” presented in two sections by Kimberlee Smithton, business development coordinator at the High Plains Technology Center in Woodward. Employees can attend either session: 8:30 to 10 a.m. or 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. in room 209 of the Struckle Education Center.
