HARZMAN, MURROW TAKE TOP HONORS AT NORTHWESTERN ART SHOW

            Kelsey Harzman and Dr. Rod Murrow are the Best of Show winners in the student and employee categories for the Fifth Annual Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society Art Show. Murrow also received the most votes for the “People’s Choice Award,” and Kristy San Soucie is the winner of the “Celebrate Northwestern” category.

These items and other entries will be on display in the J.W. Martin Library through Saturday.


"A Good Coyote" by Kelsey Harzman earned the Best of Show award from among the Northwestern Oklahoma State University student entries. All winning entries in the campus show will be on display downtown in the Runnymede Hotel Monday and Tuesday.

"Ear to the Track" by Dr. Rod Murrow took the Best of Show prize from among the Northwestern employee entries.

"Fine Arts Falls into Line" by Kristie San Soucie won first place in the special category, Celebrate Northwestern.

"Great Salt Plains Lake" by Dr. Rod Murrow received the most votes from those visiting the art show to make him the winner of the People's Choice Award on campus.

All entries winning prizes in the campus show will be taken downtown for a show on Monday and Tuesday in the Runnymede Hotel. The show downtown will be free and open to the public Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a reception for artists and the public from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. A “People’s Choice” award also is up for grabs for those showing artwork at the Runnymede.

All entries that did not win a prize in the campus show, must be picked up from the library on Monday between 1 and 6 p.m.

Winning entries being shown at the Runnymede may be picked up downtown after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, or Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. 

            The judges awarded Harzman top honors and $75 for a photograph of a dead coyote covered in ice. The entry was in the Outdoor Beauty category and was named “A Good Coyote.” By winning Best of Show, the Photography/Digital Art Division ($50) and first place ($15), her total winnings for this one photograph is $140.

            Harzman also won first place in the Life Category for a photograph named “Puppy Love.” She won second in black and white photography for “Who Are You Looking At?” second in Ranger Surprise for “Bubbles,” third in Elements of Design for “Ice Sickle Windmill,” and third in Digital Darkroom for “Emiliee.”

            Harzman also placed first for a pencil drawing named “Mother to Be.”

            Her total cash prize winnings are $189.

            Murrow’s Best of Show prize comes on a black and white photograph of a youngster with his ear near a railroad track. The name of the photo is “Ear to the Track.”

            Murrow also placed first in Outdoor Beauty with “That Grand Old Tree,” and third with “Great Salt Plains Lake,” which also won him the People’s Choice Award and $50. He placed second in Elements of Design with “Ice and Snow,” and second in Ranger Surprise with “Maytag.” He also won second place and $5 in the Celebrate Northwestern category for “Herod Hall.”

            San Soucie’s first place entry in the Celebrate Northwestern category is a digitally enhanced photograph of the Fine Arts Building morphing into a line drawing named "Fine Arts Falls into Line." This graphic soon will be available for purchase as a fundraiser at www.cafepress.com. The Art Society has several online merchandise stores at this location, and all can be found by simply using their search box with the term NWOSU.

            Student winners will receive $15 for first place, $5 for second and $2 for third. The student division winners receive $50. People’s Choice will pay $50 regardless whether the winner is a student or employee.
