KAPPA KAPPA PSI WRAPS UP YEAR’S ACTIVITIES

Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Lambda Omega chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi (KKP) wrapped up its activities for the school year by electing officers for 2008-2009. KKP is a national fraternal organization that promotes the advancement of college and university bands.

Cory Kerr, sophomore vocal music education major from Conway Springs, Kan., was elected president. Other officers are vice president—Ryan Wiebener, junior vocal music performance major from Alva; treasurer—A.J. Bohlman, freshman instrumental music education  major from Hooker; recording secretary—Becky Stanton, junior elementary education major from Ponca City; parliamentarian—Chris Jamison, sophomore criminal justice major from Carmen; and historian—Ashlie Hawley, junior elementary education major from Buffalo.

Lambda Omega Chapter’s activities during the school year included a December clothing and toy drive, a Valentine’s party an Easter egg hunt for children at New Beginnings, providing water and cups at band camp and home football games and hosting a “fun day” for area high school band students at Northwestern’s Family Day.

The group also participated in homecoming and the Student Government Association’s Halloween haunted house. It contributed to the commission of “A Little Learning Is a Dangerous Thing” written to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Fine Arts Building.

Lambda Omega held fundraisers including sale of T-shirts and a centennial ornament (which may be viewed and ordered at http://www.nwosu.edu/kkpsi/store.htm). Funds raised are used for service projects, sending members to workshops and conventions, providing leadership opportunities and for creating music opportunities such as concerts and commissions.

Jamison, Hawley, Kerr, Yvonne Colle-Burden, Medicine Lodge, Kan., senior, and Shawna Gilbert, Enid freshman, attended a KKP area workshop at Oklahoma State University earlier in the semester.
