NORTHWESTERN HOMECOMING BUTTONS TO GO ON SALE TUESDAY

Colorful buttons designed for Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s homecoming celebration will go on sale Tuesday. Friends of the university will have the opportunity to buy the buttons as a way of supporting the annual event, this year scheduled for Oct. 4, 5 and 6.

Button sales chair Monica Schmidt said members of her button-sales team and members of the Homecoming General Committee will meet at noon on Tuesday in the Northwestern Student Center to kickoff the sales campaign. Schmidt will distribute packets of buttons to her sales staff, and the group will set sales goals.

“Homecoming really puts the spotlight on Alva and Northwestern,” Schmidt said. “The event brings a lot of visitors to the town, and it’s important that the whole community supports homecoming. One of the best ways to do that is to buy buttons and provide the financial foundation to keep the celebration going.”

The 2007 button features a swirl of black, red and gold, highlighting this year’s theme of “Homecoming 007, Northwestern and Oklahoma BOND Forever.  Valarie Case, university relations specialist at Northwestern, designed the button.

A homecoming button sells for $10 and is a $22 value, providing admission to the Miss

Cinderella Talent Show and the Miss Cinderella Pageant, each of which have a ticket price of $8, and the homecoming football game against Oklahoma Panhandle State University, with a ticket price of $6.

“Even if a person cannot attend all three events, purchasing a button is the best way to show support for Northwestern and for homecoming,” Schmidt said. “The sale of buttons is the primary funding source for homecoming. Many people buy buttons even though they will not be able to attend all the events, and many business owners purchase buttons for their staffs.”

In addition to Schmidt, button salespersons include Bill Marshall, Todd Holder, Peggy O’Neil, Cathy Brown, Gary Brown, Margaret Barton, Liz Smith, Johnny Jones, Marilyn Bouziden, Arlo Darr, Rick Cunningham, Ken Brown, Steve Hannaford, Scott Brown, Jerry and Aleta Kohlrus, Karen Koehn, Sally Bush and Serita Simon.
