NORTHWESTERN RAISES SCHOLARSHIP CAP FOR FRESHMEN

First-time freshmen enrolling on a full-time basis at Northwestern Oklahoma State University will have the opportunity to quality for additional financial aid from the institution.

Beginning with fall semester of 2007, the cap on institutional aid to qualifying freshmen will increase from $2,500 per academic year to the equivalent of tuition, fees and on-campus room and board expenses, approximately $5,500 per year depending on variable factors such as the number of credit hours taken.  This does not include the use of Federal financial aid or OHLAP (Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program) assistance, which students may qualify for on top of their scholarships up to total cost of attendance.

“Raising the scholarship cap accomplishes many positive things,” said Dr. Janet Cunningham, president of Northwestern. “First and foremost, the additional dollars being made available to qualifying students will help further offset the expenses associated with attending Northwestern. In addition, students who have outstanding records of academic achievement will view Northwestern as a more favorable choice when comparing scholarships offers.

“Northwestern has managed one of the region’s best scholarship programs for many years, but this move makes a great program even better.”

Funds generated by the Alva Incentive Program, the Northwestern Foundation and the institution will be used to make the awards. The deadline for scholarship applications is May 15.

Students with questions concerning financial aid at Northwestern should contact the Financial Aid Office at (580) 327-8542 or visit the financial aid web page at www.nwosu.edu/financ/finance.html.
