NORTHWESTERN THEATRE STUDENTS TO PRESENT ONE-ACT PLAYS

Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s theatre program will present its first production of the year Sept. 28-30 at 8 p.m. in Herod Hall Auditorium. Admission is $2 for students and $5 for non-students.

An “Evening of Susan Glaspell” is a combination of two one-act plays, “Suppressed Desires” and “Trifles.”  “Suppressed Desires” is a comedy and “Trifles” is what some consider as one of the best written one-act plays because it follows the rules of playwriting perfectly, assistant professor of theatre Kimberly Weast said.

“It’s [Trifles] simple, but an intriguing, who-done-it mystery,” Weast said.  “I’ve always wanted to direct ‘Trifles’ and this is an opportunity to give some upperclassmen a chance to take on challenging acting roles.”

Heather Munn, Duncan junior; Cody Smith, Marlow senior; Zach Smith, Cherokee senior; Brooke Weiss, Anthony, Kan., senior and Austin Curtis, Glencoe sophomore, have roles in “Trifles.”  In “Suppressed Desires”, the roles are filled by Lisa Bradt, Alva freshman; Erin Cheney, Fresno Calif., freshman; and Lewis Mize, Follett, Texas, junior.

“Everyone will be entertained with both comedy and drama,” Weast said.  “I would encourage students and community members to participate and observe the arts at Northwestern.”
