‘A NORTHWESTERN NOVEMBER’ TO FEATURE MANY EVENTS

The month of November will be one to remember at Northwestern Oklahoma State University as the school celebrates A Northwestern November, a month-long campaign to highlight numerous campus events.

A Northwestern November is part of the university’s Ride with Pride campaign, an effort to bolster pride and raise awareness in Northwestern.

“November will be an exciting month at Northwestern with events that will appeal to everyone,” said Dr. Janet Cunningham, president. “Northwestern will be the center of activity in November.”

A Northwestern November begins with the university’s largest annual event – homecoming. The homecoming celebration begins Thursday, Nov, 2 with the Miss Cinderella Talent Show at 7:30 p.m., followed by the 55th annual Miss Cinderella Pageant on Friday, Nov. 3, at 8 p.m. Both events will be in Herod Hall Auditorium.

A full day of homecoming activities are planned for Saturday, Nov. 3, including the parade at 10 a.m. in downtown Alva and the traditional football game at 3 p.m. Northwestern will play host to Texas College on Ranger Field with the winner claiming the Central States Football League championship.

Northwestern also will kickoff its 110/100 Centennial Celebration on Saturday at Alva’s downtown square immediately following the parade. The 110/100 Centennial Celebration is an observance of Northwestern’s 110th anniversary and the Oklahoma Centennial, both of which occur in 2007. A number of events are being planned to take place through spring 2008.

All eyes will focus on Woodward on Wednesday, Nov. 8, as Northwestern will break ground on its new campus building at 11 a.m. at the construction site at 2007 34th Street.

Beginning Thursday, Nov. 9, more than 400 collegiate cowboys and cowgirls will descend on Alva as the Northwestern Ranger Rodeo begins its three-day run at the Woods County Fairgrounds. Performances are nightly at 7:30 p.m.

The sounds of basketball will echo through campus on Saturday, Nov. 11, as the Northwestern basketball teams play their first games of the new season in Percefull Fieldhouse. The women’s team will meet Newman University at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s game against Tabor College at 8 p.m.

A Northwestern November will close in Enid on Thursday, Nov. 30, with “The Grand 50s,” a dinner and 1950s-themed show sponsored by the Greater Enid Northwestern Alumni Task Force.

            Other November events include:

·         “American Memory” Workshop, Nov. 7, 4 p.m., Shockley Hall 216.

·         Thanksgiving Food Drive with Phi Beta Lambda, Nov. 7-22. Woodward Campus.
