FOUR FROM NORTHWESTERN EARN THEATRE FESTIVAL RECOGNITION

Three Northwestern Oklahoma State University students and one faculty member recently earned honors at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Lawton.

Northwestern Oklahoma State University assistant professor of theatre Kimberly Weast, along with students Brooke Weiss, Erin Cheney and Heather Munn, recently received awards at KCACTF at Cameron University in Lawton.  The students will now compete at the regional festival at Tulsa in March.

Heather Munn, Duncan junior; Erin Cheney, Fresno, Calif., freshman, and Brooke Weiss, Anthony, Kan., senior, were chosen as Irene Ryan contestants and will compete against actors from five states in March at the regional festival in Tulsa. The states included in the regional festival are New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana.

Irene Ryan contestants are some of the top actors of each festival and if they are selected at the local festivals, they have an opportunity to be recognized at the regional festival as well.

The students were honored because of their performances in the groups’ one act plays performed at the Cameron University festival.  Munn and Weiss performed in “Trifles” and Cheney was in “Suppressed Desires.”

Kimberly Weast, assistant professor of theatre, was one of three recognized as an outstanding director.  Weast also received recognition for her scenography. Munn also was recognized as outstanding for her graphic design and set painting.

Munn and Weiss will attend the regional festival in March to present Munn’s graphic design and set painting, and Weiss will present her costumes.
