GRUBER TO ADDRESS GRADUATES AT NORTHWESTERN FALL COMMENCEMENT
Northwestern Oklahoma State University graduate and former Alva resident Tom Gruber will be the guest speaker at the university’s fall commencement ceremony at 4:30 p.m., Sunday in Percefull Fieldhouse.
Gruber now is first assistant attorney general of the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office. Before being appointed to that position, he served as the chief deputy attorney general in the Criminal Division.
As first assistant attorney general, Gruber supervises the Civil and Criminal Divisions that consist of 84 lawyers, 101 investigators and support staff.
The Civil Division contains the General Counsel Section, Litigation Section, Public Utility Regulation Unit, Environmental Protection Unit and Tobacco Enforcement Team.
The Criminal Division consists of the Criminal Appeals Section, Grand Jury Investigation Unit, Victim Services Unit, Consumer Protection Unit, Medicaid Fraud Unit and Workers Compensation and Insurance Fraud Unit.
Gruber received a bachelor of arts degree from Northwestern in 1970 and his juris doctorate from the University of Oklahoma in 1977. In between his college stints, he was a jet fighter instructor pilot in the U.S. Air Force from 1970 to 1974.
He was elected to two terms as district attorney for District 26 from 1983-1991 and was twice elected as president of the Oklahoma District Attorneys Association. After completion of his terms, returned to private practice in Alva.
Gruber was appointed to the Oklahoma State Ethics Commission by the Attorney General in 1995, serving as chairman until accepting his position in the Attorney General’s Office.
A reception for graduates, families and friends will be held in the Student Center Ballroom immediately after the commencement ceremony.
