PRESIDENTIAL PARTNERS GOLF CLASSIC SET FOR OCT. 5;
CHESAPEAKE ENERGY CORPORATION TO AGAIN SERVE AS TITLE SPONSOR

            A field of nearly 100 golfers is expected to participate in the 7th annual Northwestern Oklahoma State University Presidential Partners Golf Classic, Thursday, Oct. 5 at Boiling Springs Golf Course near Woodward.

            The event is a benefit for the Presidential Partners program at Northwestern. Since its inception in 2000, the program has supported the development of the President’s Leadership Class program, sponsored the participation of students in national events and competitions, provided funds for special unmet needs to enhance teaching and learning, and supported special projects to enhance student recruitment and retention.

            For the fifth consecutive year, Chesapeake Energy Corporation will serve as the title sponsor of the event. Chesapeake is one of the nation’s largest independent natural gas producers and owns one of the largest inventories domestic natural gas reserves.

            Chesapeake’s involvement has helped make the tournament one of Northwestern’s most important events of the fall.

            “Chesapeake has been a very supportive corporate partner through their support of this tournament and the Chesapeake Scholars Program,” said Dr. Janet Cunningham, university president. “Northwestern is most appreciative of their willingness to support the University and its students.”

            In addition to a day of golf and networking, a popular part of the event is the intra-campus competition for a traveling trophy. Upon entering the tournament, each team will declare whether it is competing for Northwestern-Alva, Northwestern-Woodward or Northwestern-Enid. The winning team will be able to present its campus the traveling trophy to display for a year.  Last year the team sponsored by Central National Bank of Enid captured the trophy for Northwestern-Woodward.

            In addition to Chesapeake’s involvement in the tournament, other companies across northwest Oklahoma are becoming involved in the event.

            For the third consecutive year, Northwestern Electric Cooperative of Woodward will serve as a major sponsor, including its sponsorship of the tournament lunch.

            About 100 golfers are expected to participate in the tournament, which features a four-person scramble format.

            Tax-deductible entry fees are $70 per person or $260 per four-person team, and will include green fees, use of a golf cart and a barbeque lunch. Presidential Partners who pledge this fall at the $1,000 or $500 levels will automatically receive up to two complimentary entries.

            Businesses or groups also may secure Gold Partner Sponsorships that include a four-person team entry and advertising package.

            Sponsorships of individual holes and tournament prizes also are available.
