FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                  October 24, 2006

ALUMS WILL GET THEIR KICKS AT NORTHWESTERN HOMECOMING

“Get Your Kicks in 2006” is the theme of Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s annual homecoming celebration, Nov. 2-4 in Alva. Hundreds of alumni and former students are expected to return to their alma mater for homecoming activities.

The celebration begins on Thursday, Nov. 2, with the Miss Cinderella Pageant Talent Show at 7:30 p.m. in Herod Hall Auditorium. The 26 contestants vying for the title of Miss Cinderella will perform their talent acts as the 55th annual competition begins.

Miss Cinderella will be crowned on Friday, Nov. 3, at the Miss Cinderella Pageant, which begins at 8 p.m. in Herod Hall Auditorium.

Anna Arganbright Milleret, the 1967 Miss Cinderella, will serve as mistress of ceremonies for both pageant events.

The campus will come alive on Friday at 10:45 a.m. with the sounds of “Ride, Rangers Ride” and cheers at the traditional homecoming pep rally. The public is invited to the event at the campus fountain.

Saturday's events begin early with the Ranger Run, a 5-kilometer event, which will begin on the downtown square at 8 a.m. A one-mile fun run also is scheduled. Early registration is available by calling (580) 327-8105 or runners can sign up the morning of the run.

Other downtown attractions begin at 9 a.m., with food booths, games and other activities.

The Northwestern Alumni Association will sponsor a reception for Jim Barker, this year's honorary parade marshal, at 9 a.m. in the alumni tent on the north side of the square.

One of the largest parades in Oklahoma begins downtown at 10 a.m., with bands, floats, Miss Cinderella contestants, Northwestern homecoming royalty, dignitaries, Shriners, horses and more. After the parade, selected bands will perform mini-concerts on the downtown square, and parade awards will be announced.

At noon, alumni and the general public are invited to enjoy a barbeque lunch prepared by the Rowdy Rangers at the Alumni Association tent on the square. The lunch is $5 per person.

The pinnacle event of Homecoming--the football game--will kickoff at 3 p.m., as the Northwestern Rangers will try to clinch another Central States Football League title by beating conference foe Texas College.

The football game also will feature a performance by the Alumni Band and a halftime show featuring The Spirit of Northwestern Oklahoma, the university's marching band, and coronation of the 2006 Ranger Queen and King.

Homecoming buttons, good for admission to the Miss Cinderella Pageant events and the football game, are available for $10 by calling (580) 327-8593. Separate admission to all of these events is $18 for adults.
