ELECTRICAL STATE EXAM PREP COURSE OFFERED AT NORTHWESTERN

The Professional Development Center (PDC) at Northwestern Oklahoma State University will offer a preparatory course to prepare journeymen and contractors to pass the Oklahoma Electrical Licensing Examination.

The course will be presented from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on Saturday, June 30, in room 120 of Shockley Hall at Northwestern-Alva. Cost of the course is $175, which includes the Guidebook of State Exam Questions.

Deadline for enrollment is Monday, June 25. Students should bring their NEC 2005 code book to the class. Dr. Patti Wilber, director of the PDC, said the course was being presented to meet the needs of persons in the area.

Bringing the review course to Alva saves area people significantly in cost, as well as windshield time to Oklahoma City or Tulsa,” Wilber said. “This opportunity prepares participants locally to take the state exam and provides needed services in northwest Oklahoma and southern Kansas.”

Gary Flowers of Poteau, a retired electrical inspector for the State of Oklahoma, will be the instructor. Flowers has a Trades and Industrial bachelor’s degree and has been an electrical trades instructor for 20 years. He also has been an electrical contractor for 35 years. He is a state certified electrical CEU instructor in both Oklahoma and Arkansas, is a national electrical code instructor and a national electrical inspector for residential, industrial and commercial locations. He also is an OSHA safety inspector and BAT coordinator.

The Electrical State Exam Prep Course will provide a test review for the journeymen’s and contractor’s license. The journeymen review will include codes and calculations, while the contractor’s review will include codes, calculations and a business section.

For additional course information, potential students should contact Jim Detgen, director of Northwestern’s physical plant, at (580) 327-8645. To receive further information about enrollment, interested persons should contact Wilber at (580) 327-8506.
