NORTHWESTERN PROFESSOR REPRESENTS UNIVERSITY ON COUNCIL

Dr. Mark Denton, professor of psychology at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, recently attended the semi-annual meeting of the council for grantsmanship at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

The purpose of the council is to develop a collegial atmosphere in which regional university “research” administrators can discuss their mutual needs and programs regarding extramural activity, i.e., grants, contracts and cooperative agreements.

Denton was chosen to serve on this committee because of his role in coordinating the Grants Oversight Committee at Northwestern.

Denton said the committee is working to form partnerships between regional universities for external funding for equipment to be used between the universities.

“The equipment being pursued is rather expensive and cost prohibitive for an individual institution to purchase, so the collaborative idea has come up as an option to acquire the equipment, so we can provide our students with opportunities that otherwise they wouldn’t have had the chance to experience,” Denton said.

The council meets twice a year.  In the spring semester they will meet at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.  In the fall of 2007 the council will meet at Northwestern.
