CROSS CANADIAN RAGWEED CONCERT CENTERPIECE TO RED RIOT WEEK
Plans for Red Riot Week at Northwestern Oklahoma State University continue as the final touches are underway on the Cross Canadian Ragweed concert and other activities, including the traditional Family Day events.
The centerpiece to Red Riot Week, sponsored by the student group R-Unit, is the concert scheduled for Sept. 27 at 8:30 p.m. in Percefull Fieldhouse, and tickets are still available for $20, said David Pecha, vice president for administration and coordinator of the concert. They are available through the business offices in Alva and Enid and the administrative offices in Woodward.
The concert may be taking place on the Northwestern campus, but university officials want everyone to know the concert is open to the general public, too.
“It’s not often that we can say we’re able to see a well-known band of any genre in concert for $20 right here in northwest Oklahoma,” Pecha said. “We hope the Northwestern community and members in surrounding towns will come out to support this special event.
“Our students and staff have logged a number of hours to bring Cross Canadian Ragweed to Northwestern and Alva, so we hope to see a large crowd at the concert.”
Pecha also said the band is described as having a country/southern rock sound, so there should be plenty of enjoyable music for anyone of any age, regardless of their personal musical preferences.
“Whether the country sound is your favorite or not, we learned last year with the Brian McComas concert that the event in itself was enjoyable and was just as good, if not better, as anything we’ve seen in a metropolitan area,” Pecha said. “In Percefull Fieldhouse, there’s really no way to have a bad seat.”
Fans can charge to MasterCard, Visa or Discover by calling (580) 327-8534 or (580) 213-3104. Northwestern will not accept checks for the concert tickets.
Pecha said that ticket sales in Enid and Woodward will end on Monday, Sept. 25, at 5 p.m. In Alva, tickets may be purchased in the Alva business office in Herod Hall by phone or in person until 4:30 p.m. the day of the concert. At 4:30 p.m., a Will Call window in Percefull Fieldhouse will open for cash sales only. Also, anyone purchasing a ticket with a credit card may pick their tickets up at the Will Call window beginning at this time.
Red Riot Week officially kicks off Tuesday, Sept. 26, when the Lady Ranger soccer team takes on Southern Nazarene University at 5 p.m. at the Alva Recreation Park. A special “Pack the Pitch” event, complete with a cookout, is planned beginning at 4 p.m.
The R-Unit’s annual pep rally/bonfire on the Ranger Field parking lot will be Thursday, Sept. 28, at 8:30 p.m. Fans of Ranger football and soccer are welcome to attend the event to help the Ranger cheerleaders, university band and others cheer the teams on to victory.
A dance for Northwestern students will take place on Friday, Sept. 29, from 9 p.m. to midnight on the street between Coronado and South hall dormitories.
For the traditional Family Day events on Saturday, Sept. 30, a reception for family members and Northwestern employees will take place at 10:30 a.m. in the Ranger Room. A tailgate cookout will begin at noon on the third tier south parking area of Ranger Field. The $3 meal will consist of hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, cookies and a drink. The Ranger football team then takes the field against Langston University at 1 p.m.
The last event of Red Riot Week includes the university’s theatre production of “An Evening of Susan Glaspell” on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 8 p.m. in Herod Hall Auditorium. Theatre students will perform in two one-act plays, the first being the comedy “Suppressed Desires” and the second, a drama named “Trifles.”
