NORTHWESTERN HOMECOMING BUTTONS TO GO ON SALE

Colorful buttons designed for Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s homecoming celebration will go on sale Friday morning, Oct. 6. Friends of the university will have the opportunity to buy the buttons as a way of supporting the annual event, this year scheduled for Nov. 2-4.

Button sales chair Monica Schmidt said members of her button-sales team and members of the Homecoming General Committee will meet at 5:15 p.m., Thursday, Oct.5, in the Northwestern Student Center to kickoff the sales campaign. Schmidt will distribute packets of buttons to her sales staff, and the group will set sales goals.

            “Homecoming really puts the spotlight on Alva and Northwestern,” Schmidt said. “The event brings a lot of visitors to the town, and it’s important that the whole community supports homecoming. One of the best ways to do that is to buy buttons and provide the financial foundation to keep the celebration going.”

            The 2006 button features a player’s foot ready to kick a football, highlighting this year’s theme of “Get Your Kicks in 2006.” Angelia Case, instructional media technician at Northwestern, designed the button.

            A homecoming button sells for $10 and is an $18 value, providing admission to the Miss Cinderella Talent Show, the Miss Cinderella Pageant and the homecoming football game against Texas College. Tickets to each event are $6.

Anyone who wants to purchase buttons and is not contacted by one of the salespersons can buy them at the Alva Chamber of Commerce office on the square, 580-327-1647, or at the Northwestern Foundation office in the Student Center, 580-327-8593.
