NORTHWESTERN STAFF MEMBERS TO ATTEND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE

Sheri Bushman, bursar at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, and Charleen Carlile, manager of the Enid campus business office, will attend the College Business Management Institute (CBMI) July 31 through Aug. 4 in Lexington, Ky. The institute is offered through the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers (SACUBO).

CBMI is a three-year program and both Bushman and Carlile will be completing their third year. The first year provides a broad overview of the many different areas of university management, including maintenance, human resources and financial administration. During the second and third years, participants may choose classes and workshops pertinent to their areas of work. Graduates will be honored at a banquet scheduled on Aug. 3.

Bushman will be taking classes focused on leadership skills, team building and management styles and performance.

“I have appreciated the opportunity to represent Northwestern at CBMI,” Bushman said. “Not only are we able to gain knowledge from classroom time, but we benefit from networking with individuals from across the country.”

Carlile is one of 12 recipients of scholarships given each year for that year’s institute. She had to submit a cover letter stating her personal career aspirations, a current resume and a letter of recommendation from her supervisor.

She plans to take courses including administrative systems, team building, professionals on the Internet, and futures in communication and tax issues in higher education.

SACUBO is one of four regional associations that make up the National Association of College and University Business Officers. Its purpose is to foster, develop and promote improved principles and efficient practices in the business and financial management of colleges and universities. It also conducts educational activities and professional development programs and promotes professional standards and ethical conduct among its members.

SACUBO covers 15 southern states from Oklahoma and Texas to Virginia and Maryland.
