JUDGES AWARD TOP ART SHOW PRIZES TO KELLEHER, CASE

                Judges for the Fourth Annual Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society (NAS) Art Show have made their choices and ribbons have been placed.

The photograph titled “On a Good Day” taken by Nichole Kelleher, Woodward senior, has earned the top student award as Best of Show. Kelleher also has been awarded the most prizes in this year’s contest by winning five of the six categories within the Photography/Digital Art Division plus the Division Award.

                The pencil drawing titled “John” by Angelia Case, Instructional Media Center technician, has been awarded the Best of Show ribbon for the Employee Division of the show.

Dr. Rod Murrow, associate dean of graduate studies, takes home the first place award in the special category “Celebrate Oklahoma” with his photograph titled “The Dome.”

            Willie Benson, Alva sophomore, has been chosen by viewers to receive the People’s Choice Award for the piece titled “Bamboo Fountain” in the sculpture category.

Nearly 200 pieces of art have been on display in the J.W. Martin Library on Northwestern’s Alva campus since April 19. Employee entries made up 87 of those pieces of art with student entries totaling 110. This total is up 73 entries from last year’s show. NAS and its art show co-sponsor, the Student Government Association, will award $635 to the winners for this year’s show.

                Student Division winners include: Photography/Digital Art – Kelleher, On A Good Day; 3-D/Functional Art – Debbie Anderson, Stitches of Friendship; Painting and Graphics – Kyler Baum, Blue Barn.

                Employee Division Winners are: Photography/Digital Art - Rod Murrow, Life in Chicago; 3-D/Functional Art – Sharon McConkey, The Good Shepherd; Painting & Graphics – Angelia Case, John.

                All pieces winning an award will be transferred to downtown Alva at the Runnymede Hotel located on Fourth Street, directly across from the Alva Police Department.  Show times at the Runnymede are Monday, April 30, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a reception for artists and the public from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

                Remaining artwork in the J.W. Martin Library on the Northwestern-Alva campus must be picked up on Monday, April 30, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

                Artwork at the Runnymede Hotel can be picked up after the show closes on Tuesday, May 1, or between 3 and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2.
